About once per week I gently scrub it with a baby toothbrush and mild soap. I also take it off when I'm putting on lotion or hair products and things like that, so it doesn't get very dirty anyway. Still, nothing makes those diamonds and platinum shine like a good professional cleaning at the jewelers, which I get every 6 months.
I clean my rings every other day with a baby toothbrush (extra soft bristles) and mild soap. I soak it in super hot water first, brush brush brush, then a blast of super cold water. It comes out very sparkly.
Professionally though, about once every 6 months or when I remember when I walk by the store.
Where's the "more than 1x/week" answer for us ring phobes?
I just LOOOOVE when it sparkles. I get it pro cleaned whenever i go into a jewelry store and they offer. Which is almost every single time I step in there.
Usually every Thursday night so it's sparkly for the weekend...I have issues :)
Whenever I head to my jewellers which is at a mall I walk in hand it to them and get it cleaned. I end up going to the mall quite often! at least once a week or a couple times a month! I love it
I was out with a friend last night and we were at the mall and I was like "oooh, wait let me pop my ring into get cleaned" and she was like why, it looks fine how much of a difference does it make??! when we got my ring back she was like "wow....that does make a difference, I didn't think your ring could get sparklier" ha ha Love it!
haha... every six months, i take mines to my favorite jeweler to have it inspected/cleaned. i love it sparkly, but with a daughter and a house, i just don't have the time to worry about whether or not my ring is sparkly. i do take it off when i wash my hand, shower, put on lotion to help it from getting dirty too quickly.
I've had my ring since Dec 2008, and I've yet to clean it (myself or professionally), hahaha! oooooops, I just never thought about it I guess. It still looks as sparkly as the first day I got it though! I guess if it started to look less sparkly or dingy, I will get it professionally cleaned.
@redbullfanatic, Like you, I clean mine of Thursday or Friday so it's clean for the weekend!
I usually clean mine at home at least once a week using mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush (recommended by a fabulous jeweler) and then have it cleaned by my jeweler whenever I'm over in her direction. To help keep it looking nice, like ZoeKat, I also don't wear it when putitng on lotions, hair products, and the like.
Another thing many people don't realize is you shouldn't wear your ring if you're going to be spending alot of time in water, say when doing the dishes or taking a shower. The water can get under the prongs and loosen them, making your chances of losing the diamond increase. It'll take time, but it can happen. So if you're doing dishes, take the ring off!
I use cloths that I got from my jeweler. One cleans the ring and the other buffs it. I try and remember to do it once a week to keep it looking clean. The last time I got it cleaned by the jeweler there was a HUGE difference, and I know it's because I wasn't cleaning it every week!
My jeweler told me put a small amount of mr. clean in a cup and warm it up in the microwave (not scalding, just warm) and drop the ring in and let it soak for a few minutes. he said to then scrub the ring with a toothbrush and that will do the trick. I don't know how it works because I haven't tried it yet. My ring is platinum - different metals may require different clearning methods.
Right now, I just use a toothbrush and some hand soap, and that seems to do the trick.
I polish it pretty regularly but only get it professionally cleaned a few times a year (it came with the purchase)
Most jewelers will do free basic cleanings so whenever I wander by a jewelry store I will look at my ring and see if it is uber sparkly...if not then I get it cleaned.
I also have a small sonic jewelry cleaner at home my fiance got for me. I use that about once a week probably.
Twice a year (every 6 months) I take it in and get it refurbished at the same time I get it inspected. this keeps it looking great and catches any problems with loosening prongs and what not.
I clean mine about once every 1-2 weeks. I have jewelry cleaner that I bought from Target (at the jewelry counter). Its a tub that has a strainer tray in it that you lift up and put your ring on. Then you let is soak for 30 seconds and then use the brush it comes with. Its super easy and always comes out extra sparkly! :)
I clean my ring at least twice a week. I can't stand to have a dingy ring. I also get my ring cleaned every time I go to the mall. I got a jewelry cleaning kit at a bridal show and I love it. It came with a little brush that is great for getting in between the setting and the primary diamond. Does anyone else catch themselves staring at their ring? Sometimes I forget how pretty it is so I have to stare in awe
@beachwedding--I've had my engagement ring for over a year, and I still stare at it sometimes. :) It never stops making me happy.
I usually clean my rings once a week or so (if I remember) with mild dish soap and a baby tooth brush. I've had my e-ring professionally cleaned a couple of times, when I went in to visit the jeweler to look for/order/pickup my wedding ring. I need to get my e-ring resized, so I'm hoping to get both rings sized sometime soon.
I clean mine maybe every 2 weeks or so. I put super hot (steaming) water in a dish with some dishwashing soap and let it soak for about 15 minutes. Then I scrub with a baby toothbrush and rinse in cold water. works like a charm!
Please be careful, different metals react differently to chemicals. Dishwashing soap and a toothbrush work for everything!
I always stare at my ring! haha But I only clean it every couple of weeks. It's always so sparkly, and I especially love how it looks in the sunlight. I haven't had it professionally cleaned yet, but I will right before the big day.
Hmmm, I read somewhere to soak it in Windex over night. That's pretty much all I do and it gets pretty sparkly. :)
I have a tungsten ring and it comes out clean every time I shower or wash my hands. As for my wife's ring, we have it professionaly cleaned and rhodium plated, (it's white gold), twice a year.

I was reading the post how-do-you-keep-your-diamonds-sparkly and was wondering, how often should one be cleaning her ring? Can you clean too much? Let's take a poll!
