Just thinking this morning about how much I need a cut and root touch up... but I really don't have the money! Then I realized my last cut was in January (eek) and I really do need to get another one! I feel like I end up going way less than the ideal because I just never have the cash. How often do you get your hair cut?

Not nearly as often as I should! I just never have the money for it! :( It's generally every 5 months or so.

Normally every time I fly home to California, I'll get a haircut from my hair lady there. So that's about every 5-6 months or so. I need to find a new person here!! :]

Like every 6 months.  Should go more but the problem is I don't know what to do with it and always just end up telling my stylist to do the same thing as always.  It looks alright, just bored of the same style.

I go about every 6-8 weeks. Sometimes longer. My hair is really short, so when it starts to get really shaggy and fall over my eyes I know it's time.

I want to go every 6-8 weeks but right now I don't have the money for it.  Before my last hair cut, I had gone 6 months ugh.

The funny thing is R gets his hair cut every 2 months exactly. But it's much shorter and unruly, so I can't blame him. Plus, guys' cuts cost so much less.

I get a haircut/trim about two to three times a year.

Have you tried a salon school? I STILL can't bear to spend $100 on highlights and a cut when the salon school does highlights for $30.

Like you, my last haircut/foils was in January! I need to make another appointment soon. I definitely go way too long in between.

When I had long hair, I would get it cut whenever it started feeling gross, so about 4 times a year.

Now that I have a shorter haircut (think Victoria Beckham stacked bob) I have to get it cut at a minimum of every two months. Otherwise it loses its shape and I have to keep it pulled back all the time.

How do I afford it? I gave up dying my hair. I'm a natural blonde, and love having dark hair, but it was doing serious damage to keep my hair dark :/

I go every 3 months... so that's every 8-12 weeks depending on the condition that my hair is in.

I just schedule with my guy for every 8 weeks.  My hair has been growing so fast that I can't wait much longer than that!

Right now because I'm growing out, my stylist said I can go 3.5 months between cuts. Once the wedding is over I'm going every other month. I just enjoy it :)

Short hair is different though. When I had a pixie cut, I was going every 4 weeks. Madness!

I go about every 6 months or so. It can be costly but I found the right stylist so it is worth it to me.

    8-12 weeks.

@lily - you should ask your stylist to give you a cut that won't need frequent trims. Even cutting things slightly differently can help. it may cut their business as far as how frequently you go in, but if you know they're looking out for you, you're likely to return for your next trim. Good luck !

I don't do it often enough, but you're right...it's expensive! I try to get in every 3-4 months, but I should really go at a solid 3 to keep my hair in its best shape.

like Ejs4y8 said, visit a cosmetology school! they have instructors constantly watching over them and so usually you get a decent job. esp since it's just a root touch up and a basic haircut. those students shouldn't have a problem with that at all!

@ejs4y8 - I'd be more willing to now... one of my, er, fun friends from high school was going the Aveda institute by us for the past year. I got to listen to her stories about how she'd show up drunk from the night before on a day she'd be cutting clients' hair. Scared me away from there for awhile since I met all her friends who were doing the same thing and also went there.

@Melissabegins - it's funny you mention this because my stylist actually brought it up in January! I go to a nice (read: expensive and probably more than I should be spending) place because I had my hair cut poorly one too many times at in-between salons. I mentioned to her that it was my first haircut in 6 months and that I hated how my hair got in between, and she said she would cut it so that it'd grow out nicely. Unfortunately my hair is really damaged because I'm awful and straighten it about 5 days a week, so I get split ends easily.

Oooh - maybe you could ask her to give you products, too! If she can cut the hair in a way that will be more graceful growing out, AND give you some protection from the elements, it should at least buy you another month before split ends happen :) The hair straightener is so tempting!

lol @jenny, as a cosmetologist, i COMPLTELEY agree. i never understood why a child's haircut cost less than an adults when they are twice as difficult to do when the squirm, twitch and whine the whole time.

but really, don't be nervous about cos students. there is quite a bit of potential there! And trust me, most of them are much more nervous about the process and outcome than you will be, and they'll be sure to consult their instructor about it.

I bought good shears at Sally Beauty Supply and cut my own hair every 6 weeks or so. I do this partially because of the expense, but more so because everytime I'd go for a trim, they would cut off so much hair and tell me I should come back in 6-8 weeks! At that rate, I'd end up with no hair left to cut.....I have naturally curly hair (lots of big spirals) so when they cut what they think isn't too much, I end up with really short hair.  I love long hair because it keeps my hair from getting too poofy (b/c of the weight of long hair).  So, I just gave up on them.

I have short, chin-length hair (PWC!), so I have to go every 8 weeks at the longest to maintain the style (otherwise it gets too poofy).

When my hair was long, I would honestly go 2-3 times a year. I admit, my hair is pretty awesome. With the right cut/layers when it's long, it grows out perfectly, and I don't get many split ends. It's my one feature I'm really proud of :)

i go regularly every 8 weeks.  But I keep getting my hair cut a bit shorter and it's hard to wait for so long to get it cut!  so I may soon change it to 6 weeks.

I haven't cut my hair since last June!  I used to dye my hair and would go every 6-8 wks for that then get it cut every other time I did the touch ups.  Once I stopped coloring, I stopped caring.  I started getting my hair cut 2-3 times/yr TOPS, and then once we were engaged I decided to "grow it out" though it's now past my natural waist (and I HATE it).

FI gets a trim every 3-4 wks like clockwork.

I also cut my own hair, FI does his with some help from me. We have a cosmetologist friend who showed us some basics and now I'm cutting several friend's as well as helping FI with his hair too! I end up cutting too often because I get kind of obsessive about it but I'm trying really hard to let it grow right now so trying to stay very far away from the scissors!

I'd like to say I go every 6-8 weeks, but I often have to wait longer because of schedule/cost.  I'm actually pretty due for a cut and color--I noticed my highlights were growing out kinda noticably this morning.  Oops!

every other month, so I guess 6 weeks.  I have really short hair so sometimes even going that long is too long!  It sucks because it's so expensive, too!  But ahh, I love my hair cut.

Every 3 or 4 months - mainly because of the time it takes.  I love my stylist and the cuts she gives me but it takes her nearly three hours and I never feel like I want to give up that much of my Saturday!  Everytime I make an appointment I ask for the earliest time she has...oh - and I always go with my hair washed and dried to cut down on time.  I know it is insane.

This might sound horrible, but I usually get my hair cut once a year! *gasp* I know, I know... It's hard to cut my hair because I have thick Asian hair and have only found one person that has been able to do it (in my home state) so it's hard for me to travel home and get my hair cut as frequently as I like... :-(  I've let others cut it before, but have only hacked it up.
