I get my ring cleaned almost everytime I go to the mall. It doesn't do any damage at all.
I clean my rings at home with ammonia free jewelry cleaner about every 2 weeks. I always thought I was getting it very clean but I recently had them cleaned at my jeweler and I was amazed and how much black stuff was left behind on the cloth. I guess the prefessional stuff and the steamer really do more than what I have at home. I plan on having it done professionally a little more often now. Maybe before special events and holidays...
Our ring warranty involves us getting it cleaned and inspected every three-four months, so that's minimum. Sometimes I'll do it randomly if I'm at the mall, too.
I havent had it prof cleaned since I got it back in May and don't really think about getting it done. I keep a little toothbrush in the shower and give it and my pendant and other rings that I wear on a daily basis a little scrub in the shower with a little soap and water.
I've only gotten my ring cleaned once and that was when we to try on bands. I really need to be nicer to my ring and get it cleaned a bit more often!
2x a year. My ring guarantee states I must take it to be cleaned/inspected every 6 mos.
Ive had my ring for about 9 months and its been cleaned easily 8 times. I also clean it at home and dont wear it when im doing messy things.
I clean it at home with the cleaner they gave me and sometimes with HOT HOT water & a few drops of dawn and shake it around it comes out perfect!
Any time I wander into a jewelry store at the mall they offer to do it for free. Thanks, I'll take it! Not sure what they do exactly but it takes only a few minutes.
I got it cleaned right before our wedding (along with getting it re-plated - white gold)
However I did buy a baby toothbrush and every week or so I heat water in a small container with dish soap (like Dawn) in the microwave and soak my engagement ring in it and then brush it with the toothbrush - you'd be amazed at the difference.
The warranty on my ring requires me to bring it in every six months to have it cleaned and checked.
hmmmm....for some reason I have never thought about going to the mall to get mine cleaned. Is it "frowned" upon if you get it cleaned at a jewelry store other than the one you bought it from? My ring is from an independent jeweler that is kind of far from where I live. Would I get bad looks if I go in and ask to get it cleaned at another store? lol..
I have to get mine inspected every six months for my warranty and that's usually the only time I get it cleaned. Every now and then I'll clean it at home.
@Gabrielle123: I don't think it's frowned upon. They've always offered.... I've never asked. And like I said it takes no time at all. If it's a slow night, I bet they will offer the same to you.
@Edina - Thank you for the answer! I think next time I am at the mall I am going to stop by the jeweler to get a nice clean.
I had it professionally cleaned once, about six months after I got. I'm not sure how 'professional' the cleaning was, though. They just took it in the back and 2 minutes later they brought it back and said it was done.
Every few months to every six months. It seems like whenever i go into a jewelry store to browse and kill time, they offer to clean it so i let them! But i certainly don't go out of the way to get it professionally cleaned.
I used to work for a jeweler and the term "professionally cleaned" it a bit overrated. I wasn't trained specifically in cleaning a ring. It was nothing special. we used an ultrasonic, a soft toothbrush and some forced steam on genuine diamonds. and then we put them under a scope and poked on the stones to see if they'd move.. Definately not rocket science and the ring got no cleaner than if I did it myself at home with heated windex and a little dish soap.
I quickly scrub my ring with a soft toothbrush and hand soap almost everyday and then rinse it out. Keeps it looking amazing!
I probably have it cleaned about twice a month. I have a friend who works at Helzberg diamonds and even though I didn't get my ring from there, he checks the stones and cleans it every time I come in.
Ultrasonic jewelery cleaning machine!!. I bought one on Amazon for $28 and it's really extraordinary. It takes two minutes - no scrubbing!
I'm really OCD about it. I get mine cleaned as often as possible, which is usually about once every 1-2 weeks.

Does the cleaning do any damage? I wear sunscreen and other creams daily, and mine seem to get dirty rather quickly.
