How often do you mani/pedi?

I am both a manicure AND pedicure virgin!! I'm about to take the plunge... but I'm wondering, how often does the average girl go in for one and/or the other? I am not at all interested in acrylics for fingernails. I like to keep them short. (Actually I'm wondering how necessary a manicure is for someone like me...) But as for a pedi, I am constantly wearing sandals and I'd like to start keeping my toes nice. I'm hoping maybe once a month, with touch-ups on my own for polish, would do the trick? What do you think?

I haven't had a mani/pedi since July of last year when I went for a wedding.  Boo to that because I love them.  I think that a pedi once a month should be fine if you do your own touch ups.  Manicures though I am not sure how often you need to get them.  I do my own and change my polish pretty frequently but that's just because I like variety!

I only do it a few times during the winter but in the summer I like to go at LEAST twice a month...last time I went I had the no chip nail polish and it has lasted 2 weeks! I love getting my mani/pedis

OMG it will change your life. Your nails will feel SO wonderful for a while. If I had the money I'd go weekly. I rarely get to go except special occasions :( ps I'm a short-nail gal too.

If I could I would go once a week! I usually get my toes done once a month and my nails done about the same (I also do my own american tips pretty well and it is much cheaper but I'd prefer to go and let them do all the pampering and upkeep).

Dang, once a week?! I used to live in the pacific NW, so I got used to not having to spruce up my feet -- but I'm embarrassed to say that I've lived here in perma-summer weather for quite a while, and the most I've ever done is a little exfoliation in the shower and just clipping my toenails! Eek! I started to find that I try to "hide" my toes/feet when I'm sitting down with people, because they're not exactly pretty, and I never can seem to scrub away enough of the dead skin. So, even though it might mean basically adding another "bill" to the monthly budget, I think I am way past due to seek professional feet help! (Confession: This is all part of my new year's resolution to be more "grown-up." I am 25. LOL!)

Wow I am surprised how often people go.  How do you all afford this?  And don't you drink any milk?  I find that I don't need manis or pedis if I drink milk.

Anyways, I go once a year.  That's it.  I don't usually wear sandals in the summer - I work in a lab so I can't.

Pedi: Usually once a year, right before summer season. I usually time it before one of my conferences and do a mani too.

@amariem....I just budget for it. It's the one luxury I guarantee myself every two weeks. I don't like milk but I do take a multi-vitamin which causes my nails to grow like crazy.

MILK? what does that have to do with not needing mani/pedis? My nails are super healthy and grow really long and strong but I get them done because they look pretty :) I always get compliments on my hands

I had my first and only manicure the day of the wedding. I am a biologist and my hands are in too many weird solutions and other subsyances to be worried about my nails.

@JennyC, I know right?! My grown-up check list includes getting a pedicure, wearing "real clothes" to work, and cooking meals with side dishes. I'm trying!! Haha :)

I'm also a bit confused about the milk advice! As far as I know, mani's/pedi's aren't for the health of your nails... they're to make them smooth and pretty-colored. But what does a pedi-virgin know anyways, right? :-P

Glad to hear not everyone goes regularly. We'll see how much I love it and how often I'm willing to shell out the $!

I do my own nails. To me it is not something that I want to spend money on. I can keep my own nails looking nice. They don't look model perfect, but they still look nice.

I would go every week if I could! I LOVE getting pedicures. But in reality I go two or three time a year - usually before special occasions. I got one in March before visiting home in Florida (yay sandals!), and I'm planning to get one next week before going to a friend's wedding (also in Florida). I probably won't go again after that until the wedding!

I do, however, work at a shoe store (DSW) and if I want to wear open toe shoes or any kind of sandals, I have to have well manicured toes. So I might use that as an excuse for another round before the wedding ;)

pedicures about once a month, and manis the same unless I can afford more often - in between, I just do it myself - I love having painted nails ;)

I think the milk advice is for calcium which aids nail growth.  I take a multi vitamin and it seems to do the trick

once a month from about April to Sept, and then maybe once or twice during the winter months... Unless of course we have a girls night -- then a pedi is must!!

Definitely not often enough. The last mani-pedi I had was for my wedding back in September. I don't know if this is true or not but I hear that having a pedi can stimulate labor so I am not taking any chances until June, lol when it is OK for my DD to come out.

Hardly ever.  Maybe a couple times a year.  I'd just rather spend my money on something else, especially since I'm perfectly fine with doing my nails myself.

If I could afford it, I'd go all the time.  However, I only go in for an actual mani a couple of times a year, for special events.  I do my own manicures/pedicures at home all the time though.  I'd say I do my mani once a week and my pedi every other week.

I feel like a brat. I go every other week for a manicure, and once a month for a pedicure. I love getting my nails done.

It's funny because I could care less about my clothes, I make them, buy them at the thrift store or on clearance, but I am super-insanely high maintenence about my nails, my hair and my purses.

My boy totally understands my nail thing. And I think he spends more a month on his food tab at the country club than I spend on my nails, hair and clothes combined.

I haven't had one done in years.  I really don't like getting pedicures because I have the tendency for ingrown toenails and the people always end up cutting the nails wrong so they go into the skin.  So I'm not sure if I will ever get a pedi again.  And for manicures, I usualyl keep my nails natural since they grow pretty well.

i didn't have my first pedicure until 2007 when i was 24!! :P it was for my friend's wedding toO.... i always had a phobia of strangers touching my feet and also the cleanliness of nail place foot spas...

anyway, i LVOED IT and i usually get a few during the year... i maintain myself and try to mani/pedi at least every few weeks.
