    Hello!

I'm debating whether I should get a wedding videographer and some people have commented that they actually watch their wedding video more than their photos after they get married..

    Is that true?

    Thanks!

Mine's still be made so I don't know yet how often we'll watch it. However, I wanted one because we knew that at leat one of FI's 3 living grandparents couldn't mae the wedding when we booked the videographer. It turned out that none of his grandparents could make it so I think the video was a good idea. I also hought it would be a nce record of other family members when they are no longer with us.

This is the main reason we didn't get one - we knew that we wouldn't watch it unless it was a crazy amazing video, which would mean crazy amounts of money. :-(

Instead, we just got a kick-ass photographer whose photos we know we will look at all the time!

We watch ours once a year on our wedding anniversary.  We didn't pay for a videographer - but one of our family members does videography and did it for us as a surprise!

We bought a video camera and got a friend to tape the ceremony and reception speeches etc. We watched the ceremony once, on our honeymoon a week after the wedding. Last weekend our house got burgled and the video camera was stolen along with the one copy. I think someone else might have videoed the ceremony but we've lost all the reception footage. I'm heartbroken! So while I wouldn't necessarily pay the money for a pro unless I could easily fit it into the budget, I would recommend some kind of video - I hate that I'll never be able to show my children our first dance, or uncle John's funny toast, or any of that. Just make sure you make a copy :)

I don't anticipate watching ours that often, which is why we decided not to pay for a videographer. But we learned a friend of ours who does videography as a hobby is going to be bringing his HD camera to our wedding, and do it as a gift to us.

Still, I'm guessing we'll maybe watch it 10-20 times in our lifetime?

I don't think its about amazing production, its about capturing the moments you can't in photos! I agree that having someone tape the ceremony and speeches is really nice if you can't afford a pro.  WE found a pretty reasonable pro and while we don't watch it all the time, we couldn't wait to watch it when we got it and relive one of the most amazing days ever!! I would have really regretted not having  a video, hearing us recite our vows, hearing the amazing MOH & BM speeches, etc...

I think we will probably watch it about as often as we will look through our wedding album :)  I am guessing it will be something we watch on our anniversary.

At first, I felt similarly that it wasn't important and no one watches it...

But then after my Grandma passed away and I was so GRATEFUL to find my childhood videos with her in it--I realized that maybe you won't watch your video every year or in 5 years of even 10.. but I bet oneday after your parents have passed away, when you have kids, even when your husband passes away one day.. you be VERY glad that you have them. Videos just capture something that pictures don't. They don't have to be anything expensive or fancy--our best videos are the ones my dad filmed with a handheld camcorder. But just to have something, is just priceless.

My video was pretty reasonable $1500 for eight hours of coverage.  We didn't even have to pay the last $500 until it's finished.

Whenever I want a little pick-me-up I watch the 4 minute highlight reel our videographer made.  (Can we say obsessed??)  We didn't hire the most professional one (he was only $250!), but he got the job done beautifully.  Watching us so happy and listening to Matt & Kim playing in the background makes me feel so good.  I do the same with our photo album.  Videography is worth every penny.
