It doesn't matter. I think you should go with whatever you want. I am getting resistance that a 9 month old can't be a ring bearer! (But it's the principle of the thing. For me, my uncle was 9 yrs old when my parents got married and he was the ring bearer. And now that same uncle has a son- and I would love to 'carry on the tradition' and have his son be my ringbearer.... I don't even mind if the mother carries him down. It's about including family in the ceremony)
I think that 12 years old is the limit...if he can't sing soprano at church, he should prolly be a jr. groomsman but 8?? That's perfect!! Cuz he'll behave, and you won't have to worry about him messing anything up. ![]()
A friend of mine is going to have her 16 year old cousin be ringbearer, so I don't think there is an age. (I know 16 is not normal, but the couple isn't normal either, very eccentric)

I want to ask my bestfriend's son who is 8 years old, but would he be too old?
My other option would be my nephew in law who is 4 years old and he would be closer in age with our Flower Girl who is 3 years old.
Does it matter?
