How exciting!! 😀 I am 20 & dh is 22, hopefully we’ll be getting our first home within two years 🙂 Everyone says renting is a waste, but we’re waiting since we wanted to get a new car & upgrade our furniture first. It’s going to be a long couple of years 😛

@crisy003:  How wonderful, I wish you so much luck! 🙂

I don’t think me and DH will get a home until he leaves the military so we are looking at our mid 30’s. I am super jealous and wish we could be home owners in our late 20s!

I was 22 and DH was 25 when we bought our first house.  We are now 25 & 28 and are having our second house custom built.  We were in a similar position, we were renting a place from a guy that was a jerk, and we realized that we could be spending the exact same amount of money for a place we owned, plus building our own equity/credit etc.  So, we talked to a realtor and we bought a place!

That’s exciting! We don’t own because our jobs tend to keep us moving around. Do you know that you’ll stay in your town after you finish school and FI finishes with the military?

I inherited mine as a teenager, but we’re in our 20s and hoping to buy another one soon.

    $59,000.

    For a HOUSE.

    What the hell.

    I’m unbelievably jealous.

The starter house price in our city is around $600,000 with a 20% deposit and the average house price has jumped by $50,000 each year, for the past two years.

We we’re planning on buying a house in 2015, but I want to go back to University (starting next year, for three years) and as that cuts our wages in half, our new plan is to buy a house in five years (which would make me 27 and him 28).

@crisy003:  We’ll be buying in Auckland City, New Zealand.

A house in the area we ultimately want to live in and raise our family in (which is where SO grew up) is upwards of 1 million dollars. When his parents sold their house (from memory it was four bedrooms, three bathrooms with a pool) about eight years ago it sold for close to 2 million.

We could maybe get something around the $450,000 mark, but it would be in a bad area we wouldn’t be comfortable living it.
