Hi Bee’s –
My FI and I have been “house hunting” for months online and about two months actually looking at houses. We FINALLY found a house we both loved, put in an offer and are in the process of WAITING.
I thought I’d be fun to see how old everyone was when the purchased their first home. I’m 23 and FI is 25 as of last week 🙂
We are hoping to live in this home for 4 – 5 years while I’m in law school, then move on to either another city or hopefully our dream home 🙂

At this rate in this area (NYC metro area), never, lol

@Meant2Bee: Waiting. Isn’t it the best??? *rolls eyes* Good luck 😛
We just bought our house last week (by bought I mean closed – we actually *bought it* in February…but you know, had to wait) and I’m 24, FH is 25.
It has been so much fun 🙂

We were both 30.
We wanted to be at a point in our lives that we were comfortable living in a place for at least 7-8 years before we even considered moving.

@Mimoza: We JUST got notice the seller has countered our offer. I really felt like we gave a strong offer. Time to call FI and see where we go from here.

I was 39 when I signed the contract with the builder, and 40 when the house was completed, and I went to settlement.

@BookishBelle: So true! Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

I will be 26 when we close ( next month) and DH will be 31 on our close date. Happy birthday to him!

Probably never! And I am totally okay with that 🙂

I was 23 and DH was 25 when we bought our first house. Good luck and enjoy!

@LittleRiver: I don’t know HOW my parents were able to afford a house at 22/24!! I know the market was different 30 years ago, but still! To find an affordable house that just isn’t falling apart (I’d settle for v. small) in a good school district (imperative for me) is impossible.

@Meant2Bee: I bought my first investment property at 20 (without a man or my parents – scary! At least it was for me). From there, I bought my first family home at 22 (I was single, so again, I did it alone).

I was 28. I bought it by myself, it’s still solely in my name but my fiance lives with me. We’re thinking of upgrading just because he likes big houses but I’m not sold on the idea approx. 1600 square foot 4 bedroom home is plenty enough space for 2 people.

@Meant2Bee: Ugh. That happened to us too – at the end we got the house for $10K less than it was listed (we pretty much accepted their first counter offer because we loved the house too much).
Good luck hun! Keep us posted!
