Sadly, one of our family cats passed away this weekend. Leon was a beautiful, affectionate Bengal cat and had a happy life with reign of the whole house. He was very close with our other cat Calisto, they played together and would sleep in embrace almost once every day. When he was sick, she licked him to try to make him feel better.
We’re relieved that Calisto is not showing signs of depression- she is eating and acting pretty normally…she is maybe just a little quieter.
Is that strange? Don’t cats who are close to other cats act differently when one of them passes away?

@Evie19: first of all, i am so so sorry about the desth of your cat! its so hard to loose a family member. xo my cat died about 5 weeks ago and his bbf was pretty quiet and seemed okay until she started getting really needy for attention & meowing a lot. We ended up getting her a new friend and all is good again.

Thanks MrsHoney, I’m sorry you lost your cat too. :-/ It’s so sad.
I wonder if Calisto will start getting super needy in a few weeks too…poor thing.

Sorry to hear about your furfoot 🙁 I’m in complete blissful ignorance that my kitty will live forever.

I’m so sorry for your loss 🙁 *hugs* I don’t have cats, but I think it can vary greatly.
One of my friends has … idk, A LOT of cats (her property is 2 houses, she lives in the front one and rents to friends). One went to go live with a former housemate of hers and that cat ended up being so depressed he had to go back to living with them (I think b/c said former housemate wouldn’t think of getting another cat). One did pass away and some of the cats seemed depressed but I don’t know if two noticed. My childhood dog (I had him for 15 years) lived with a cat for a few years, and when that cat passed away, my dog was confused adn a little depressed. He would go lay in one of the cat’s “spots” to hang out, and just.. lay there. I remember he spent a day or two just sort of lookng around for the cat.

@MsLobizon: Thanks very much you guys. I am finding it wierd that Calisto is not exhibiting that kind of behavior like the dog you mentioned in your post…although I’m glad she isn’t super depressed or anything.

Im sorry 🙁 Was it sudden? If not, maybe Calisto had time to understand what was happening and knew it was coming? Wen my dog had to be put down at year it was after months of sickness/slowing down so the other animals kind of knew it was coming. They still refuse to sleep in her basket though and are confused as to who the pack leader is.
I’m glad your fur baby isn’t depressed, but I’m sure she is mourning as will take a while to get used to being an only child.
