How productive are you at work?

Let's face it, many of us are on here during the day when we should be, ahem ... working. Which means, most of us probably have jobs that don't fill up a full day. I definitely fall into that category, and at times, it's frustrating because it kind of makes the day go by slow.

So, how many of you have jobs where you feel you have a lot of down time, and why do you think that is? Do you like it, or do you wish you were busier? Does your boss know the situation, or are they blind and you'd like to keep it that way? :)

I probably could be more productive than I am, but lately I've not been very good at seeking out work...it's so much easier to do the work that falls on your desk and little more.

Now I'm feeling a little guilty.  Think I'll be a hard worker bee at work today :-)

I have a lot of down time! I work at a bank, as a teller, so not much goes on when there are no customers! Plus, I cover phone desk a lot, so that means all I have to do is answer the phone when it rings!!! I don't mind it because it gives me time to do other things! Then the BF isn't bitching because I'm on the computer all night :)

oh misschapstick - how appropriate! i totally have 1 million things to do, but sometimes i get so overwhelmed that i need to hang out on WB for awhile to get myself together and then i can focus. i wish i were less busy, but so goes working in pseudo corporate america during a tough economy: understaffed, working twice as hard and doing twice as much work for the same pay. i like what i do, i just wish i could do less of it... ;)

I definitely wish I was busier, but I'm not complaining.  Just thankful I have a job.  My boss does know, or at least, she should, since I'm forever emailing her/walking to her office asking if there is anything I can do/she needs help with.

I could be way more productive - I am a phd student so I control my own work load and I have been sooooo bad lately!

I really couldn't be more productive because I am a customer service rep and answer phones all day, unless they're not ringing, which today they aren't, so I have a lot of down time.

I love my job - I am very thankful for it!

My job is annoying in the fact that for a week stright I can be crazy busy and barely have time for lunch, but then I'll go the next week with NOTHING to do. I wish it would just spread itself out. There are a few things I can get done in my down time, but doing them all would only take about 2 hrs, so I avoid them and let them build up so I can make a day out of it.

Honestly, I think a large percentage of jobs could be squeezed into half a day, but I know in my case, I'm the only one who can do my job, so therefore have to be available all day. I'm almost always ready to leave at 2:30 everyday. That last 2 hours is painful.

Maybe I'll get real ambitious tomorrow and clean out the supply closet! Ha!

Its feast or famine- either I'm crazy busy or things are slow.  Wish it was more in between.

Mornings are our busiest times.  Sometimes all day is busy but I'm usually on in the afternoon when things quiet down.

It was a good job to have while i was in school though cuz i did all my homework here. now that i'm done though i'm soooo bored!

Right now I'm in a slow time at work and since it's a healthcare related field, I have little control over patient numbers.  I'll be the first to admit I have been on the internet way too much lately, especially since my employer can and does check internet usage.  Guess it's a good thing I'm at home right now!  Perhaps if I were feeling a little more inspired at work I'd be taking on some new projects, for the mean time I'm just trying to find my way out of a rut.

I have a lot of downtime and I wish I were busier. My boss is clueless and it doesn't even matter if I point it out to him. UGh.

Oh gosh - I have tons of down time - I wish we were busier here. And they're monitoring our internet more closely so now I'm trying to limit my time on WB which means I get VERY bored!
