I'm getting married one year from tomorrow (eek!) and was wondering when I should begin contacting photographers. When did you start looking? When did you book a photographer?
Thanks bees!
We just found ours--it's MOH's hubby! :) So, about 14 months in advance.
EDIT: I put an ad on Craigslist at the beginning of August but started looking in May.
We booked ours RIGHT after we got engaged (14 months out). She set our date for us because she only had one date available in the month we wanted, and we knew we wanted to use her.
I'd say start contacting them now. The good ones book up fast!
we started looking right after we got engaged (11 months out). we booked our photographer about 10 months out. i would recommend looking and booking soon since it looks like you're getting married on a popular date.
I booked at 10 months out. We were engaged on Dec. 25, picked our date around the begining of Jan. Went to a bridal show, met them and booked a few weeks later.
I think we had our photog before we had our venue! So probably about 2 weeks after being engaged!
We booked our well over a year before our wedding, but honestly I wish I had waited and done more research. Its one of the decisions I really regret, so I def reccomend doing lots of research!
We booked ours within a month after we got engaged which was two years out. The photographer I had my heart set on was already booked so that made us start looking right away.
We booked ours about a year out and I am very excited to work with them! I know they had another couple inquiring about our date as we were working out the details of the contract, so don't wait too long if you really want a particular photographer!
We started looking in January and our wedding is December 31. We had our photographer booked by the first of Feburary (11 months before the wedding).
We booked ours when we got engaged and he was the first vendor we booked. 27 months out.
we got engaged back in March and just booked our photographer over Labor Day. We are getting married next Labor Day weekend so a year out.
i booked a year in advance! im glad i did bc when i talked to her thi month she said shes all booked for may and june next year :)
I think it depends on where/when you are getting married. I procrastinated booking one because we weren't sure what our photography budget would end up being, and when I contacted 4 of my top choices last week (7 months out), they were all still available. Our wedding is early in spring, and not in a major city, however.
I just got engaged in Aug and am planning an Oct 11 wedding. All I cared about was getting my big 4 (church, venue, dj, photographer) booked right away and then just relaxing for a moment. Like people said, the good ones book up fast. I'm meeting with my photographer tonight and unless something strange happens, I think I'm going to book her. Then I'm done!!! So it ends up being about 13 months out.
I just booked yesterday! (YAY!) So we are 13 months away! I was shocked how quickly some of the ones I had gotten in touch with got booked!
We booked 14 months out, two weeks after we got engaged.
The sooner the better, especially if you have your heart set on someone!
We booked a year in advance. We emailed 3 photographers at the same time and 2 of them were already booked up.
Thanks for all the responses! I am going to a bridal show this weekend and started e-mailing some I have seen online tonight!
Start looking at least a year before the wedding. Book at least 6 months out.
We are (officially) booking ours when we meet in the next two weeks. We tried to book another photographer last week and she had already been booked. Good photographers seem to go fast. Edit: I got engaged in March and started looking almost immediately at photographers. Partly because I hadn't set a date and it seemed easy enough. But, also because that was one of the more important things for me.
Book ASAP. We were only engaged for 9 months, so we booked our photographer about 6 months out. I would recommend doing it earlier than that. We had a Friday wedding, which was our saving grace, but even then lots were booked up.
About 10-11 months, I think. Photogs fill up FAST, so I would book ASAP.
We booked about 8 months out... luckily March isn't high wedding season so we were able to get our 1st choice. It was the 2nd vender we booked, right after the venue.
i'm researching now (and have been for a few weeks) and am hoping to book by the end of the month...
We booked about 10 months out, but I was getting really antsy. Photography is up there with venues in my mind, as being one of the first things to get nailed down.
We booked not only our photographer this weekend but our officiant too! One week from our wedding. But I agree with everyone else on this board. Book your photographer ASAP. A year does sound like a lot of time but as a bride you want to be positive you'll have the photographer that can truly capture your day.
i started at least a year and a half before our wedding and STILL didn't get our first pick :( they were already booked, such a bummer. so i would say start now :)
We booked ours 15 months out. We knew right away we wanted to use them and saved booking so far in advance. Their fees are actually more than double today than when we booked last year.
I booked my photographer in June and the wedding is next November. They do get booked up fast. You might also be able to get this year's rates. A couple of the ones I looked at mentioned that they set next year's rates in the fall though.
I might win. We booked 2.5 years in advance. (We have a three year long engagement.) BUT she gave us that years prices and a discount so we're getting around $3000 of photography for $1900.
We booked our photographer on April 19 for a wedding that was October 6. However, our circumstances were a bit odd. We were getting married in Massachusetts, even though we live in the DC area. We contacted two photographers whom we liked, and who fit into our budget. It turned out that one of them was planning a sightseeing trip to DC on April 19, and was willing to meet with us then. We met him and liked him, so we booked him on the spot.
I booked (Well almost have booked) 2 years out! It is crazy how booked up photographers are in my area! I had one booked and then found out she double booked the date and of course I was the 2nd to book for that day! I scrambled for the last 2 months trying to find someone suitable who was avaiable and half decently priced. I was quoted $5000 by one photographer! I nearly died when she told me that! $5000... in Newfoundland, Canada..... seriously? I found another that I was interested in, I email 3 times, I called and left a message twice.... no response! So I gave up on her. But I think I have found someone now. Just waiting to hear if they are available for my date and then its done! Thank God!
As soon as we got our venue and date! We did a temporary timeline with them at 1st but it changed a couple times by the time the wedding day came around. As long as you have the general timing like ceremony at 6 pictures at 4.
We booked our venue and these things a little over a year before the wedding. Bu we had a 1.5 year engagement also ;-)
7 months out. We only had a 9 month engagement and the photog was the first vendor we booked.
