How Soon Did You Buy Maternity Clothes?

I think I started getting them about 8-9 weeks along. My regular shirts were mostly fine but my pants weren’t working out, even with the hair tie and a bella band. On the flip side, I find maternity pants to be a smidge loose, but they feel much better with a bella band than normal pants with hair ties IMO. The zippers, in particular, would dig into my skin because they weren’t zipped anymore.

I shopped pretty early, and started wearing maternity clothes almost exclusively around the end of my first trimester. For me it wasn’t so much about the fit as it was about wearing things that were flattering. My normal clothes still FIT me but they made me look fat and muffin toppy and awful. Maternity clothes actually flattered my changing figure! There’s no such thing as “too early” to start wearing maternity stuff 🙂

I SHOULD HAVE bite the bullet and bought maternity pants at around 8 weeks.  Like @lilbluebird:  said, my pants were just not working even with the hair tie trick.  It was just uncomfortable.  I’ve been living in maxi dresses and I never thought I’d say this but I am tired of them after 1 1/2 months!  I just bought some maternity pants and they came in today and after trying them on I am seriously kicking myself in the butt for not buying them sooner!  I am 14wk 1d today!

@future_mrs_sommer:  this is the time for fat jeans!!! My sister in law never used maternity pants she just added the elastic band. And bought long tops. How about jeggins and leggins? Skirts and dresses?

I don’t really remember… i didn’t buy any with my first (I did get a few items though but I didnt start really showing until about 5 months or so.)  I wore my regular jeans and sweater to my baby shower at 7 months pregnant (just left them unbuttoned).

With dd, I did buy a few items but I also got a ton of maternity stuff… I didnt really need the maternity stuff until after my 5th month.

With my 3rd, I can’t remember when I needed the maternity but I didn’t buy anything new… maybe 1 or 2 things (mainly tops).

This time around I was not going to buy any maternity stuff (I gave all that stuff away).  I just didn’t see the need. I am home most days and when we go out I wear my regular tops with leggings.  However, my mil got me a few maternity items and dh’s cousin sent me some maternity stuff too.. not too overwhelming though so that’s good.  And they are really cute so I can rock them post partem until I get my body back.  I started wearing the maternity stuff out (they are nicer stuff so I wear my regular stuff around the house) around 5 months.

And when I say regular stuff around the house, I mean sweats or skirts that I can wear without having to zip, larger sized tshirts, etc.  I cannot fit any of my regular jeans LOL.

I bought maternity pants at 10 weeks.  I was really superstitious about buying anything baby/maternity in the first trimester, but I was so bloated and needed to be comfortable.  I have a business suit kind of job so the hair tie and bella band wouldn’t have worked for me.

You’re going to need them eventually, so might as well buy stuff early and get your money’s worth.

I remember my pants being uncomfortable even with all the “tricks” around 8-10 weeks so I ordered pants online and started wearing them around 12 weeks. But I haven’t really gained any weight since or maybe I ordered the wrong size in pants because they are all too big for me now at almost 20 weeks. I wear them with a bella band or I stick to skirts/dresses. I could probably wear pre-pregnancy pants still but how my belly is when I wake up (almost no change from pre-pregnancy) and how it is at the end of the day (looking like I’m due any second!) is too much of a risk. I have heard of people having to cut themselves out of pants because they didn’t anticipate the bloat.

Just starting to wear maternity clothes now at 20 weeks. I would have bought some sooner, but I wear scrubs to work and have been living in stretchy pants at home. I also had quite a few larger sized shorts, stretchy skirts and maxi dresses that I’ve been wearing out and about.

With dd I bought bottoms around 15weeks I wore dresses before buying the pants. Was just super nervous abouy miscarring so kept putting off buying clothes. This time around I work in a maternity store a lot of my clothes is from there. So I’ve been in maternity clothes all along. I’ll say my clients usually come in around 10wks bc they can’t button their pants. Sometimes a little earlier then that if they have serious bloat. Once you need maternity clothes definitely take the leap the worse thing you can do is squeeze into clothes that don’t fit or wear bigger sizes. It’s just ill fitting.
