I think it depends on where you are registering. Remember that a lot of stores change out products from year to year and things you register for now may not be available in 2014. Are you planning to have a shower soon? Honestly, if it were me, I’d wait until next year, maybe even the beginning of 2014. I just wouldn’t want to have to redo my registery twenty times. But that’s just me!

I initially registered for my large engagement party, hoping I could keep my registry for my wedding, and just add some things. When I went back to update it, and add more, EVERYTHING other than 2 items had been discontinued.

I would wait until the date of your wedding / bridal shower is set before you register.

I think it depends on if you are planning on having a bridal shower soon or not. If not I would wait because of what the PP said about items maybe going out of stock, new things coming in, etc. Our wedding is next August and we are planning on registering in February and the bridal shower will be in June. I think 2 years is far too soon if you’re not having a shower or anything.

I have already started and my wedding date isn’t until May 2014, but this is just so I can get an idea of what we would like as gifts.. I’m sure that things will change between now and then. I will just deal with it as it comes.. Not a big deal if you are doing it all online like I am..Whenever I am sitting and watching tv I just brouse thru things, adding and taking things off as well…

It’s really up to you!

I would register as close to the date when you expect to receive gifts as possible. For us, since we didn’t have a bridal shower, we registered right before invitations went out and I continued to monitor it until the day before the wedding. I think we were done and finalized a week before the invitations went out.

I absolutely do not believe in registering too early because you just never know what will get marked down and discontinued. We had some very very very basic things on our registry, including certain Le Creuset pieces and stemware, that got clearanced out in the three months our registry was available and set up. I expected seasonal things, like holiday-themed items and summer BBQ items, to get marked down and out but not regular serving pieces or pots!

We had friends that registered early and they mixed and matched pieces from different lines to create their tablescape. Unfortunately, one of the lines got discontinued and she ended up with like 1 or 2 bowls out of the 8 she requested. Oops.

I think it’s smart to read reviews and test-drive some of the items to see which one you like, versus waiting until the last minute to compare two brands of pots, for example. But I wouldn’t get too attached to a particular one. I got attached to a coffee maker that literally got discontinued about a month after we registered and I didn’t see that coming, especially since it was still being sold at other major retailers!

My wedding is September 2014 as well! We’re planning on registering about 6-7 months before the wedding.

We just registered for April, 2013. I really would do it just before your shower, as it would get too complicated dealing with discontinued stuff.

I got coerched in to registering by my family… with in two weeks of my engagement, people in my family put a lot of pressure on me to register before the holidays… because they wanted to get us an engagement present BEFORE the holiday season started—

needless to say, NO ONE, not one person has gotten us a gift lol. We dont plan on having an engagement party but everyone still insists on giving gifts, (not money)…

dont rush it. we felt so over whelmed and ended up deleting 90% of what we originally put on the list… and then we spent two whole days creating a new registry and Im pretty sure some items have already become discontinued and its only been weeks since we put the items on.

Our date is March 2014 and we haven’t set up a thing yet.  Probably will 4-6 months before? At least that’s my plan currently.

We registered 9 months before the wedding, because my husband was headed out of state for work.  Ideally I think we would have registered about six months before the wedding.
