My fiance and I just got engaged Dec 24 2010 and we are looking to have a long engagement 2 to 3 years I have started lookin at dresses and decorations and not that my fiance cares he just does not think we should start buying yet. I say start now and have time to pay it off. But the other thing is we would like to pay off some of our bills? Not sure what to do please help!

I think 2-3 years out is definitely too soon to buy things. I’d wait until you’re 18 months to a year out 🙂 But, it’s never to soon to start booking venues and vedors, lock in the 2011 prices now !

If you are pretty solid on what you want in a venue you can book that sooner rather than later. What you can start doing is putting yourself on email lists (bridal salons, designers) so that you can track their sales trends. It would give you a good idea of when they generally have their best sales. If you are going to book vendors (photographer, dj) try to negotiate a lower initial deposit since the wedding is 2-3 years off. Oh and…CONGRATS!!!!!!

just to add to their ideas I think its a great idea to pay off current bills before buying more stuff =)
