@marinewife4:  I would say the sooner the better. I ordered my dress the beginning of May and it didn’t come in until October. Some places may be quick but some could take 8 months. Also, I wouldnt worry about it fitting. You would be surprised what the seamstress can do to make the dress fit just perfectly.

@marinewife4:  July isn’t that far away! I vote that you should start looking now! We got engaged Sep 2012 and I ended up buying my dress Dec ’12 ( I definitely didn’t expect to find my dress the first place I went let alone the first dress I tried on! Lol) and I’m getting married in May! Lol

That’s not far away! I’d get shopping ASAP. Some designers take 7-9 months to order…

Yeah, I’d go sooner if possible! I’m getting married in June 2014 and was told dresses take 5-8 months to come in – plus you probably need time for alterations, too.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the dress not fitting because most dresses require alterations anyway – they order to your largest measurement.

If I were you, I would start now – January.  At least to start getting a good idea of what you like and seeing what style looks best. Then you have time to shop around (if you want) and then order.  Some places take 6-8 months to order a dress, so you’ll need enough time.  Plus you’ll want to save time at the end for any potential alterations.

@marinewife4:  I think you have plenty of time. I’m getting married in April and have only just found my dress – and 3 months feels like ages away, I’m in agony not being able to wear it! I couldn’t fathom waiting any longer, haha.

If you’re going to DB you have plenty of time.  I was in a pinch at the last minute when my dress didn’t come in from a different bridal shop.  I found a dress at DB that was a suitable replacement and they could get the dress in my size sent from the warehouse within 2 weeks, or from another store with a sample in my size within 1 week (obviously no time for alterations, or with lots of extra charges, plus shipping).  Anyway, my point is if you’re definitely getting your dress at DB you have plenty of time.  If you don’t find it there, and need to go to a different bridal shop, you may want to hurry it up… wait too long and you’ll need to buy off the rack because there won’t be enough time to order.  Good luck!

@marinewife4:  I would be nervous if I were you.  I went shopping today and they told me 6-9 months.  6 months from now is July!
