    Hey hive,

I am wondering how soon I should take a pregnancy test...hubs and I have been trying this past month so it's not like it's a suprise, but my red velvet lady came on the 16th last month...and hasn't come as of yet.  And i'm usually very regular...i haven't really felt any what I would call "pregnancy symptoms"...but I have had VERY slight dizzyness/nausea sometimes and my boobs do seem SLIGHTLY fuller...but like I said, nothing completely out of the ordinary...

so how soon should I take a pregnancy test?

Most pregnancy tests can give a positive test for 90% of women on the first day of a missed period. About 10% of women won't have implanted yet at that point, so it can take a day or two longer for them. If you're a day or more late, try a test. If it is negative, but you think there's a good chance you are pregnant, wait 3 days or so and try again. GOOD LUCK!! :)

thanks! @crayfish and Miss bella! I hope I am :) hubs keeps asking if my cycle has come yet and I keep telling him no so he already thinks i'm pregnant :) I don't want to get his hopes up for a big let down but I also don't want to test to early...I think I may go out a buy the cheap dollar store one today just to see...

    sorry of this is TMI...

but what if I already pee'd this morning? can I still test today or should I wait until tomorrow?

Any pee that you hold for four hours should give you good enough results, as long as your test is strong enough. If you're already past when you expected your period, most tests should be picking up now.

Def test as soon as you have missed your period! then test every couple days after that until you either get a positive or your period. Early would be testing before your missed period = although you could get a positive, it is more likely that testing that early would just get you anxious!

Edit: I took my test in the evening 3 days after I was due and got a positive! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

When I found out I was pregnant, I took my test in the afternoon, so not morning at all, and took 4 tests. I guzzled water to make myself have to pee. You should be fine to test! Good Luck!!!!!!!

I recommend the digital read HPTs like Clear Blue Easy.  First of all because it's very sensitive, and second of all because there is no guessing, it reads "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant."  Also, it seems like you should have had a cycle by now (28 days + 5 days) so I'm guessing something is off.  Take the test!  And if it does come out negative, I would schedule a blood test with your doctor.  Some women just don't have high enough hcg levels in their urine, but your blood doesn't lie.  Good luck!!

I tested with a Target brand test in the afternoon 4 days before a missed period and had a very, very positive test.  Each woman is different and a negative might not mean not pregnant, but if you get a positive, then you know!

Once you've missed your period, you should be able to test. : ) Fingers crossed that you're cooking a little more than last night's dinner in there!

my positive came up SUPER fast on day 26, but I have somewhat irregular periods, as short as 23 day cycles...I think it's OK to test a little early, just don't test constantly if it is negative...like the ladies above said, try to wait 2-3 days before testing again OR buy HPT stock first  ;)

but I can't hold my pee for 4 hours!!!!! omg...I thought that would be easy...it is soo not...I know this might sound dumb (sorry...I have no idea how this whole pregnancy/waiting thing goes), but should I still test? i've literally been peeing every two hours...

Just do your best to wait and when you can't hold it anymore go ahead and pee on the stick and see what happens :)

i wouldnt recommend drinking lots of fluids just to pee...sometimes it can dilute the hormones in ur urine causing a false negative. you dont HAVE to do it 1st thing in the morning, but its when your hormone levels are most potent. i would wait until the 5th day of your missed period

good luck!!!! hope you are!! =)

I just took the test...I sooo cannot believe it.  I'm typing fast because I literally had to steal the laptop away so I could type this post, but I don't want to tell hubs yet...I want to suprise him when we go to dinner on friday.  So far it's been a running joke that i'm pregnant but he'll flip a lid when he actually finds out I am.

Ok so next...give me ideas to tell him and my family!!!!!!!!

gotta go he's coming in the room...i'll check the post tomorrow to see! thanks hive!

Yay! How exciting, congrats!!  I like the "dad" themed onesie... or maybe you could have the waitress at the restaurant sneak a pacifier or something baby related onto his plate :)

YAY!!! I am SO excited for you!  I logged on this morning just to see the (hopefully)good news!! I also can't believe you have the patience to keep it a secret - I literally shoved the pee stick in my husband's hand within 2 minutes.   There was a thread on the baby board about cool ways to surprise him/the family.  congrats!! (and start taking your prenatals if you haven't already)

If I think of any great ideas for the big reveal I'll let you know... but whatever way you decide will be wonderful for him. After all, it's not how you tell him, it's WHAT you're telling him!

You know what's funny?  When I read that you were peeing every two hours I said to myself "Oh yeah, she's definitely pregnant!"  Congratulations!!

You have so much more self-control than I do, I threw the test at DH (he was super excited too).  I think giving him a cute onesie would be a great way to do it.  They have them at Carters with sayings like "I love my Daddy" and stuff, and that would be cute.  Or you could get him a "Congratulations" cigar (if he's into that).  Or maybe you could set it up with the restaurant when you get there for them to bring a desert with a candle on it (like for a birthday) and bring your own "0" candle to celebrate baby's "not" birthday.  Or maybe you could find a "World's Best Dad" cake decoration.

    Again, congrats!

@MS  - so insightful! I forget that peeing all the time was the very first symptom for me!  only I didn't know that was something to watch out for at the time :)
