Fiance and I got engaged in May 2011 and our wedding is set for Sept 1, 2012. My e-ring is 18K white gold with rhodium plating. My wedding band is platinum (I wanted the band in 18K white gold to match, but they only had the one I LOVED in platinum and gold is SO expensive now so we couldn’t afford to have it made in white gold). I’m trying to decide if I should have the e-ring re-plated before the ceremony. Apparently this will involve sending my ring back to Tacori for like 3-4 weeks! I don’t want to be without it, but I want it to look really nice at the wedding! Thoughts?

I would do it before the ceremony if it is necessary. I think before my wedding I will get mine re-plated (but I have white gold). I don’t even want to think of not having my ring for a few weeks!

I was thinking of buying a cheap little ring to wear on my finger while it’s gone… haha, is that weird?!

I would only do it if it looks like it needs done

Everyone wears rhodium down differently. It depends on the chemicals in your own body as well as what you do with your ring on. I would say every six months is average but it can be as long as once a year or as often as every 2 months.

@AirForceWife78: I agree…. I took my ring into a different store to get my ring cleaned and the salesman asked if I just gotten engaged…. I told him that I had my ring since 9/11/10…. He was surprised because he said it looked brand new and he was hoping to try to convince me to get it “re-dipped” but it didn’t need it… He said that it just all depends on the chemicals in your body… I asked him how often should you get it done and he said typicially 6-12 months BUT only if needed….. so I was happy to know that but he appeared to be a little disappointed that he couldn’t get $$$ from me, lol! At least he was honest 🙂

I’m getting my rhodium plated 2 weeks before the wedding (also engaged may 2011) but mine is only away for a week at most (the jewler said a week just to be safe) it usuallu only takes a couple days where i am.
No i don’t think it sounds strange at all to have a “replacement ring” on for the time without it, i’ll be doing the same thing. I feel naked without my jewlery.

@Beckster329: friends of ours wore a giant fake ring on their honeymoon because the groom was nervous it would get stolen or lost!
Got engaged 11/2010. Never had my ring plated and it looks new! Hope it stays that way.

I got mine done before the ceremony, and only once since. Seems to need a refresh every 18 mths 🙂
