he's a keeper! and if it makes you feel any better, I didn't "LOVE" my dress either. and the reason why i felt so beautiful on my wedding day wasn't because of the dress, but because of the all of the feelings of love and excitement! enjoy your special day!
I don't love my dress. I didn't love any of the ones I saw. I liked a few that were 10 times more expensive than the one I bought, but I know mine suits my personality. (Ok, there are some I really like, but totally don't fit my body shape, so when they're on me, I still don't love them.)
But, you're FI is right . . . it's not the dress, it what's in the dress. The dress just makes what in the dress a bit more beautiful.

I just came back from my final fitting. Kind of disappointing. A few things that will need to be double-sided taped or safety-pinned since there is no way to fix them. I don't LOVE my dress- it's the one that is most like me and that was reasonably priced (I looked at 6 places, and quite frankly, got tired of it.) I told my fiance I was worried dhe wouldn't like it. He said, "I don't care about the dress. I love the girl in it...The only thing I care about the dress is the way it looks on the floor." Made me feel better!
