Just start with one box…do one box at a time.  You can do it!!

@colorofmyheart:  I felt the same way when I moved.

It is literally insane how quickly things accumulate. 4 years ago I moved to Israel with one large suitcase & a tote box. Every single earthly possession that I had fit into those.

Now, I am positively bursting at the seems in my 1 bedroom apartment that, at one time, I didn’t think I would have enough stuff to furnish. This all happened in about 2 years. It’s insane.

You can do it though! Start one room at a time & try not to think about the items much. I always do a trip down memory lane & slow myself wayyyy down by not just chucking the stuff in the box & calling it a day. Moving can also be a perfect way to purge your life of unnecessary items that just sit around unused. So, it can be a blessing.

@colorofmyheart:  Get boxes!!  It will make everything easier, I PROMISE.  Put books in smaller boxes, so even though you’ll have more boxes, they’ll be easier to lift and they won’t break when you pick them up.  When I moved in with my then-fiance, I had 15 boxes of books.  Maybe more.  I’d started labeling them things like “OMG MOORRRREEEE BOOKS WTF” because it was ridiculous.

Clothing and trinkets can go into plastic bins but really you should get boxes!  The ones from UPS are really good, strong, and you can return them when you’re done moving, I think.

@colorofmyheart:  You don’t heave to buy boxes! Visit any local restaurant or department store & there is a great chance that they will have a loot!

One piece of advice that really helped me was to pick up boxes that are primarily longer and more shallow. Less stuff gets damaged this way. Save the deep boxes for stuff like towels and linens.
