Okay, So I am getting mixed messages on how tight ones e-ring should be. Mine pretty much slides right on and off my finger, in the dead heat of summer (which is the only time I have worn it thus far). I don’t have to pull or push or struggle with it at all. It does twist a bit on my finger, but not like all the away around. However it’s not like… falling off. But some people tell me that you should have to use lotion or really work it get it off. That it should like.. leave a mark on my finger… What are your thoughts? How tight is your ring? I mean.. it’s already a size 4.. I feel silly going in there and having them make it even smaller, but I worry it might be too loose

I have to twist mine (in the warmer months) to get it off my finger, but can pop it on fairly easily. I wear a 3.75. A 4 was way too loose and I didn’t want it to fall off. If the ring is fitted properly to the part of your finger it’s supposed to sit on (not the knuckle), it will not leave a mark.

I got a 5 and most of the time it feels too loose. It very easily comes off esp in the winter.
I dont think it should leave a mark either just be tight enough that you dont think it will fall off

I don’t think it should leave a mark! I would think thats too tight. Mine sounds kind of like yours. I can get it off and on easily when I’m at a comfortable temp, in summer I need to push a little to get it over my knuckle but then its a little loose. I can fit in a 1/2 size smaller, but that seems TOO TIGHT. I don’t have any fears of it falling off even if I don’t have to force it on 🙂

The guideline that I’ve been told is that it should be tight enough that someone else can’t really take it off your finger. Ask you Fiance to remove the ring from your finger and if he can without too much difficulty, it should probably be a little smaller.
Also, you fingers are often larger in the summer than in the winter so if it comes off that easily now, it will be even more loose in the winter.

You definitely don’t want it almost falling off–you should have to tug. My parents are convinced you should need lotion to wiggle it off your finger, so maybe that’s a generational thing? I don’t like wearing anything tight (I actually dislike wearing pants because I don’t like waistbands, so I REALLY don’t like tight anything!) so my ring is pretty loose, but tighter than you describe. There is resistance as it goes over my knuckle, and that’s what works best for me. It gets pretty loose/spinny in the winter months, but so it goes. I am just extra careful about it when I’m anywhere it could come off (like washing my hands).
Mine’s a 3.5 (we started at 4 and resized down twice); people sometimes just have small fingers! I feel like there are many girls on this site with smaller fingers than mine, so don’t feel too abnormal, and get your ring downsized 🙂

I can get mine on and off rather easily. I have to kinda “lift” it over the knuckle, but not hard or anything and it does spin sometimes (which is annoying but a different story). I acutally noticed that my hands swell more in the fall/winter than they did in spring and summer, which I don’t understand.
My ring is a 5 1/4…FH got me a full eternity prior to our engagement and that is a 5 1/2. It’s too big but can’t be sized down because of the diamonds. A 5 is too small. I could get it off but I really have to struggle so we went with a 5 1/4 which my jeweler supported.

I also don’t think it should leave a mark…that would be a little uncomfortable to wear! My jeweler let me know that a rule of thumb should be that it’s snug enough that it doesn’t spin constantly, but you should be able to easily get it off your finger with a little resistance by pushing it up at the knuckle, then sliding it off.
Of course, in the summer and the winter, your fingers will swell and shrink. So if it’s easily just sliding off in the summer, you might find that it will spin a lot in the winter when your hands are cold.

I would never wear a ring that was so tight that it left a mark on my finger! I can take mine of easily, but it would never just fall off my finger or anything. I can’t wear it when I exercise because my fingers get so pudgy and its uncomfortable, lol.

i have 2 bands and my e ring so mine is not tight, but since it is thick, it doesnt slide around. i can take it off and put it on without a problem, but it definately doesnt slide around or shift back and forth, this is an interesting question since everyone has a different preference on this.

I agree with the PP’s. It should be snug, but not to the point where it’s uncomfortable. Mine does leave a little bit of a mark if my fingers are super swollen, but it’s nothing that causes pain. It’s more from the split design of the band.
I would wait and see how it feels in the winter, and if it’s way too loose, get a plastic resizer from your jeweler to wear on your ring to keep it on. Then, next summer, get it resized a bit. DON’T resize it in the winter because then next summer it’ll be waaaay too tight! 🙂

I wanted to add also, my friend wore a size 6 for almost a year, then I got engaged and she tried on mine, a 5 and that she could easily slip on and off so I told her to go to a Jewler, turns out she’s a 4! She just didn’t realize, so it is possible you don’t have the right size for your finger.

Mine is always “flopping around” but I think if I get it any smaller it won’t go past my knuckle. It’s a 4 already…hopefully once I add the wedding band to it it will sit still and i won’t end up with my ‘rock’ at my palm…like it is right now! Or else I’ll just get a ring guard, anyone have one of those?? (The metal springy kind??)

Kind of random…but i have two engagement rings.
MY first one is sixed perfetc to my finer, i can get it on and off with a little tug. Its a size four.
I won a diamond ring awhile ago and before they sent it to me they asked what my size was. I said 4. My orginal Engagement Ring was sized in Canada and fits like a dream at size 4…my new one is from New Yoek, USA and is a size 4….i have to use cream or soap or something to get it on and off. WE got it 4 days before the wedding in the mail so didnt have time to size it!!! :p

From my understanding you should have to tug it to get it off.
My ering is to big but I’m not ready to part with it. Plus I’m waiting to see what I do for a wedding band. I got one of those plastic ring guards to keep it snug. It’s worked really well. It’s not the most comfortable thing in the world but I’m getting used to it.
