How about:

Would you like to be one of my bridesmaids?

I blame Pinterest for all this big “will you be my bridesmaid” hoopla. Simply ask them. Trust me, it’s not that big of a deal and they won’t look down on you for not making them some box full of junk. You will be giving them a gift on the wedding day as a thank you for being there for you. That will suffice

I never received a clever way of being asked or a gift for that matter; I was just thankful to be so close to the brides.  I did ask my MOH by putting a picture of us together in a frame of her favorite color and writing around it all pretty-like “Will you be my matron of honor?” and giving it to her as a gift (only cost me $5).

@newcitylights:  I’m a super crafty DIY person so my opinion may be a little biased… haha.  I think something cute to ask them would be fun!  What about getting a bottle of wine for each (could even be 2 buck chuck to keep costs down) and make a custom label with a photo of the two of you and have it say “will you be my bridesmaid/MOH?”  That’s something I’m considering doing for my girls.  Cheap and easy, and really cute!

I’m no help. I asked mine via phone or text. LOL. Oh well….

I took all of my bridesmaids to dinner and gave them a box of small gifts (Yes, it was an idea from pinterest. lol) The box included things that I got from the dollar section at Target. They actually have some pretty cool stuff in that section! Anyway, in each box I included chocolate, lotion, bubble bath soap that was in a small champagne bottle, and a card asking them to be my bridesmaid. It was a fun night!

@IzzyBear:  I blame Pintrest, WeTv, Oxygen and the Bee for all this crapola floating around. I’ve been in a bunch of weddings and have never had someone go through anything more than a phone call that says… would you like to be one of my bridesmaids? Everyone had the same response you’d have if someone went through the trouble of these boxes and gifts that inevitably get thrown away or in a box never to be seen again.

I was in my late 30’s by the time I got engaged. I was no longer impressed by all the stuff I see online. I just kept saying how silly. I called my bridesmaids and asked them. They said so and I didn’t have to send gifts.

@newcitylights:  I really wouldn’t ask them until you are a lot closer to the day.  I asked mine about a year out and still would have changed some things knowing what I know now.  I wish I would have waited longer.

Out of the 3 girls I think my cousin was the only one I asked face to face, and hers was in the form of “If DH decides to ask his third friend I’ll need a third girl. You in?”

MOH and other BM were both via texts.

@emelee:  this too! I met one of my now really good friends after I had already asked my bridesmaids and I wish I would have ask her instead of one of the others. Not because said bridesmaid isn’t a good friend or a sucky BM, but she lives 3 hours away and my “new” friend is right down the street so it would have been nice to have someone so close to help with things or just to hear me bitch about wedding stuff lol

I wanted to do something a little special, but not go overboard. I bought each one of them a bridesmaid hanger from Etsy and gave it to them for Christmas. They all really liked it.
