Last night our neighbors invited us over to tell us that they are 4 1/2 months pregnant! They just got back from telling their families and wanted to share the news with us personally. They are such wonderful neighbors and have become good friends. When my DH recently got a new job, they went all out, getting us a wonderful bottle of champagne and celebrating with us.

Especially considering I think it is bittersweet for them that they are thousands of miles away from family and friends during this time, I want to really celebrate this! But since we don't have any mutual friends, a shower or something of that nature wouldn't be appropriate. I'd like to have them over for a little "yay baby!" dinner party. I just don't have any good ideas! I thought of doing the "baby foods" dinner (baby spinach, baby back ribs, baby carrots) but my mom said that is kind of weird because that's how some women tell their husbands they're pregnant.

So! Share your great ideas, people!

Aw you must be a super neighbor! I think inviting them over for a nice dinner and doing a champagne/sparkling cider toast would be nice.

You could also do the standard stork sign in the yard, and hang balloons on their mailbox.  Let's everyone in the neighborhood know as well.

I think thats a really great way to celebrate with them.  Even if you don't throw a shower you could still also pick up a nice gift.

You're a sweet neighbor! I think that stork/baloon idea is hilarious, as is a nice dinner. Maybe you can also make them a little 'gift certificate' for free babysitting, or 'cash this in for a cassarole' sort of thing.
