I am now two sizes bigger than I was pre-pregnancy, and want to buy nursing bras but have no idea what size to go for...

Do you grow more after the baby's born and the milk comes in?

I don't want to be a new mother and have to shop for bras!

    How did you choose yours?

I bought mine during my 3rd trimester and 1 cup size bigger than I was at that point.  They were big for the first week or two and now I definitely fill them out.  I could probbly go up another cup size.  Btw my daughter is now 5 1/2 weeks old.

I waited until my milk came in and went shopping at 6 days post-partum.  It wasn't a big deal to me to wait.  I spent most of the first days bra less and mostly shirtless too.

I bought mine my 3rd trimester too and I bought the biggest one at target. And it was kind of small when I tried it on then, so yes it was tight when my milk came in but I didn't really know what else to do. But I didn't really care, and I ended up only nursing for a week anyway b/c I had so many issues.

So, I went from a 34B strapped at the smallest point to a 36C strapped at the largest point. What would you say I buy?

ps: due Dec. 11, I really do not want to go out with my newborn in the winter / Christmas shopping craziness to buy bras.

@mommytobee:  I've read you should buy a bra that is 1-2 cup sizes bigger than a bra that fits late in the 3rd trimester.  I think I read that a tight bra can cause mastitis.

I would definitely wait till the late 3rd trimester & then by a cup size up... Your breasts will become quite engorged when your milk comes in.

I bought mine about 4 weeks before I was due and that worked out well!

At this point I would probably suggest a 38D, but I would probably wait until late November and see if you're really filling out the c I may be tempted to buy a DD and a D just to have both options.

I'm wondering the same thing - I asked someone at Motherhood and they have wireless nursing bras in, S, M, L & XL that are super supportive & stretchy so you dont have to buy by cup size in case you increase by a cup size or more after birth. I'm thinking I'll buy a few of these to get me through the first couple months until I want to go shopping again. (I'm normally a 34B, now am more of a 36B/C but can purchase that bra in a medium and it should hold me if I go up to a D, possibly DD).

Fyi the bras in s, m, l, xl are based on the number.  I'm a 34D/DD currently and purchased a Small and it fits perfectly.  Just talk to the sales lady when you go.  They are very helpful.

Thanks! It seems so surreal to me that I may go up to a D or even DD cup, while I've been struggling filling out my B's, lol!

I like the idea of going for a stretchy one, it seems to be the safest option for the first few months. :)

@MissDareDevil:I went from a 34B (that I had to attach at the smallest point) to a 36C (that I have to attach at the largest point). I wore my 34B as long as I could, but ended up buying 36C just a little before 20 weeks. I haven't had to change since and I am now 34 weeks.

When I had my daughter I waited til my milk came in to get a nursing bra and I am glad I did because they swelled up so bad! I am not looking forward to it this time at all because I am only 6 weeks preggers and my boobs have already gotten bigger... like one whole cup size bigger :(

@mommytobee: Milk comes in a few days after baby is born.

I jumped multiple cups sizes when my milk came in. I could literally see those suckers sitting up under my chin when I would walk (looking straight foward). Surprised

I would wait until just before baby comes and then buy up 1-2 cup sizes.
