I’m from New Orleans and traditionally when we close out wedding receptions there is always a second line band that plays and the bride, groom, wedding party and everyone else dances and the recpetion ends. As myself and the groom are not big second line dancers or dancers period…what is a good way to close out the reception?

Have your DJ/MC make an announcement that the bride and groom are going to have their last dance of the evening. Dance to a special song, then leave. Once the couple leaves, guests know that the party is over and they leave pretty soon after.

I’ve actually never stayed at a reception long enough to see how it ends, but I know that at one, someone who worked at the reception venue had to close it down because no one took the hint, even after the bride and groom left!

Usually what I’ve seen is just that the bride and groom leave. Then everyone else does too.
