My FH is half Japanese and when we first started dating we folded and strung 1000 paper cranes. As per tradition we want to display our Senbazuru at our wedding! I'm trying to come up with different ways to show it off without just hanging it in a corner somewhere and without it looking totally out of place at our beach wedding (I know it doesn't really go with the decor but it's important to us and FMIL as she only folded 500 cranes before she donated them to a hospital when she lived in Japan). I was thinking maybe using it as a backdrop for our table and spreading out the strands along the wall? Any other suggestions?

As a backdrop would be nice or over the gift or cake table to draw attention to something that you want to draw attention too!

It would be really cute if you could incorporate the cranes in your cake or favors or something too!

I love how personal it is!

I like Future Mrs. Martin's idea of over the gift table. I think cranes go with a beach theme. There are birds at the beach. I love that you made them yourselves that is really special!

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Future Mrs. Martin: I'm not sure if we are going to use cranes elsewhere but we were thinkning about making a donation to oceanographic research in honor of our guests (I have a degree in Marine Sciences) and I was thinking about making origami seahorses for the explanation cards. I'm not sure yet...

Oooh, making oragami seahorses would be a great way to tie the cranes into the beach theme (although I wouldn't have thought they were a problem anyway)

What are you using as centerpieces? What if you had some kind of manzanita tree setup at some/all of the tables and hanging them from it? That plus a cake table backdrop would incorporate them further into the room and really make a satement.

Or you can use some of the cranes as your escort cards! Like here:
