Does anyone have any experience with adding beading to a store-bought dress?
I want to change out the beads on my current dress, but I don’t really know how to go about doing it. I don’t want to take apart any part of the dress because it fits perfectly as is, but it’s a pretty simple dress and I want to add some beading on it to make it a bit more formal.
From what I can tell, most of the beaded portions of the dress are first beaded and then sewn on with a piece of fabric under the beaded fabric to give the back of the beading a smooth finish. Can I sew beads directly on the dress? And if I sew beading directly on the dress, wouldn’t the stitches rub against my skin and itch? Is there a better way of doing this?
Please help! Thank you!

Im doing something similar! Ive never done it before, and intended on using a curved needle (like a suture needle) to get the thread through just the outmost layer of fabric.
Ive done bead work before for native american crafts and sewn a few dresses so its not entirely foreign to me.
im interested to see what more experience bees say.

dv3849: Yeah, I get what you mean. I was thinking about just beading on the outer most layer of fabric, but I wonder if the knots would be too obvious? Waiting for answers from more experienced bees!

I know one of the other bees got premade beaded appliqués sewn onto her dress, if you don’t have experience in hand beading that’s probably what is do. (It’s one of the carabridal threads)
