I had no idea there was software for that!  I was just going to free hand tables and chairs, lol.  We are not doing seating assignments, only table assignments.  We figure they can figure out what seat they want since most are adults, and the kids will have the lead by their parents.

Personally I’d do it by hand.

@thdpr:  there’s no saying that your software will do it all, either! I’d imagine you’d still have to input names, right?

Maybe make a checklist by family and check each person off as you seat them (If you go this route, that is.) and make a note where they’re seated? (Uncle Joe: T5 [For table 5]) or something of the sort?

I have no idea, truthfully. I didn’t know seating software existed.

You can do it on a posterboard with these sticky post-its, after writing guests’ name in!

Does your venue have a layout? Ours just sent the map of how the tables would be laid out and I hand-wrote everyone in.

Are you assigning seats or tables?

If you are just doing tables, an Excel spreadsheet works great. You just need a list with the numbers of the tables and enough spots at each one. The best part is that you can use Google Docs and have it available at any time. This is what we did and it was fast and efficient, though we already had a good idea of how we wanted to split people up when we were sending out invitations.

If you are doing seats, you can do the same thing but just number the seats too. Otherwise, since I’m a visual person, I would do the sticky tab method as well.

I used weddingwire.com because I was already using i for my guest list. I loved it. My mom didn’t like that though and when I sent hre the seat assignments she printed them out and cut them into strips and rearranged LOL. Kind of depends on what kind of person you are visually.

I’m doing everything through http://www.theknot.com.  You can input all of your guests (we are actually using the website for our guests to RSVP which has been WONDERFUL so far) and as they accept/decline, you have the capability to draw up a seating chart for them.  I’m still waiting until I get more RSVP’s before I start arranging everyone, but I’ve played around with it and it’s really great!
