Jewelry would definitely be the way to go.
That dress reminds me of the 60s. You could also try some gloves to give it a really elegant, vintage look.
omg i love the gloves idea! and you could add some beading on the sash or something if you wanted.
I think a cuff bracelet would look bee-you-tiful!
Thanks!
I do love the cuff idea, maybe something big and chunky and bronze, with earrings to go with it. Maybe something vintage, or maybe something a little on the earthy side.
Love the input...
Ooh what about a cool fascinator? I agree with the cuff suggestions, too.
I've been thinking about a fascinator! Either that or a massive flower in my hair. My shoes are red patent leather, so I'd want something with either a white or red theme.
Thank you!
When I saw your photo I immediately thought "Audrey Hepburn" and also envisioned gloves. How funny!
Gloves would be retro and glamorous, so if you want a look that's more modern then I agree jewelry is the way to go. A cuff bracelet or a stack of different sized bangles would be funky; dangling earrings would add some punch; or as Eureka mentioned, go with some pizzazz in your hair. There are so many gorgeous flower and feather fascinators on Etsy you're sure to find something you like.
Are you wearing a veil?
I absolutely LOVE your dress...its pretty perfect. I'd vote to play up the vintagey aspect of it...oversized studs, awesome cuff, and maybe something great in your hair...like a vintage broach turned hair pin?...or a headband of sorts. I wish I could pull off bateau neckline, its super gorge!
@Million: I haven't decided whether or not I'll wear a veil. I never thought I would, but I tried one on and it was very pretty. I almost think I'd rather have a massive flower or feathery something in my hair as opposed to a veil. My hair is curly, and I'm leaning toward a messy updo. I'm thinking big hair for the day, so a fascinator on top or on the side might not work, but something in the back on the side might work...
A gorgeous, big bracelet or cuff would be beautiful with your dress. I think EJS wore a fairly large one at her wedding. I also like the idea of a large broach pinned on the shoulder. It's such a beautiful classic dress you have. Love it!
@cheerful: Thank you! I appreciate your input. I was thinking a big brooch or maybe a massive flower on my dress, pinned toward the shoulder.
Who is EJS?
EJS is a regular poster here, I bet she will find her way to this thread :) Or you can search "ejs4y8" and private message her to get her to come over!
I think gloves would be gorgeous, and I am usually not into gloves at all, but they would be perfect! I think a brooch on the shoulder could be pretty but it might take away from the gorgeous simplicity, so I would go with a "statement" cuff bracelet and a hair flower!
LOVE your dress!! So simple and classic. Personally I think the dress stands well on it's own...especially if you are doing a hair fascinator or flower, but a brooch pinned to the sash could look really cool too. Attaching a couple of ideas. The etsy seller who makes the red one does custom colors in various silks (but also ivory would look great too, was just trying to pull in the red for you).
I can picture gloves with the dress, but have to say I personally don't love it. We went to a wedding this past June where the bride wore gloves and it looked dated rather than vintage inspired (and she was trying for the Audrey look too). I think a birdcage veil would be a better add than the gloves if you are trying to achieve that look. Just remember these are the pictures you will be looking at for the next 50+ years!
I had that same neckline and skipped the necklace....I love the style, though! My dress was super detailed, and it limited my accessories, so you could do almost anything. If you aren't set on a veil, I think it would actually look better w/o one and all the above ideas are great. Big bracelet, medium sized dangly earrings and a fascinator, possibly even w/ some veil type fabric in it. I think some cuff bracelets can even be worn over gloves, but you will have to try it.
Since I had a similar vibe, I didn't wear gloves for the ceremony, but I did put on gloves for outdoor pictures. I hated most of the bridal gloves either by style or $$$, but instead I opted to just buy some (on sale) ivory cashmere gloves and sew on some pearl "buttons" warm & practical! now I can remove the pearls if I want and wear again (plus, I'm big boned % 5'10", and most of the bridal gloves made me worry they would be small)
depending on where your hair piece is, you could also use a broach somehow to tie your sash in the back, since that is what people see more during the ceremony, anyway. fun!
@Jacqi...the etsy seller is Fascinating Creations...she is WONDERFUL to work with. She made me 3 different veils to try (I ended up not wearing one, but that had nothing to do with the workmanship or styling, just personal choice). Here is the link to the sash I posted, but she has others and does custom orders too:
I love the bolero, but I don't think it fits the style of your dress.
what about a bit of sparkly loveliness on the neckline? just a little sparkle to dress it up.
maybe something like this?
this is a jeweled belt from etsy, but I'm sure you could tack it to the top of the neckline.

or something like this: (even a necklace pinned to the dress??)

It reminds me of the dress that Emma wore in Glee. I love how she accessorized it:

I love your dress! It's so elegant!
I'd say earings, 60s style short gloves and maybe a gorgeous hair piece- like a hair comb, flower,or birdcage veil!
Your dress is lovely! I have a very simple dress as well, and I am going to dress it up with a feather fascinator in my hair and a veil that has just a little bit of beading. I love the simple, elegant look!
Thanks to everyone for your input! I've got some great ideas that I look forward to exploring. What do you all think of this bow instead of my sash?
And the second thing I wanted to mention is O.M.G., I am such an idiot! I'm at work and there were a couple of threads I wanted to earmark and come back to, this being one of them. Well, I had someone come in for a meeting so I grabbed the links to these posts (including this one) and emailed them to myself to look at later.
I realized a split second too late that I didn't email them to myself, I emailed them to MY FIANCE. I emailed to my fiance a link that contains a picture. Of my dress. Of me in my dress. Ugh. Ugh. I am mortified.
I thought about logging into his email to delete it, but then I realized all of his email goes to his Blackberry, too, so called him right away. I told him to delete it, that I sent it by mistake, and of course ever since he's been teasing me about it. "But how can I delete something I've already looked at?" "Which link was it?" "What if I already looked at it?" He's so mean. But I guess I set myself up. He's very traditional and I believe in my heart that he won't look at it. But even if he does, it's not the end of the world. He already has a general idea of what my dress looks like.
Can you even believe I did that? Ugh. Barf.
Lots of Bling!!! It will keep the georgeous simplicity of the dress and you will sparkle with your jewels!
Here's another option. I took my sash, folded it in half, and tied it in the front in a big bow. Thoughts?
I am thinking a Broach on the sash... a blingy cuff and some earings and perhaps a fascinator would be just great

Does anyone have any ideas on how one might dress up a simple wedding dress? Don't get me wrong, I'm really in love with the simple elegance of my dress. But I'm thinking of dressing it up slightly and I'm not sure how I might go about doing so. It's a simple bateau neck, A-line dress in ivory silk shantung with a matching waist sash which ties into a bow around the back.
I might even consider dressing it up with big jewelry, like earrings or a cuff bracelet. With the neckline, I probably wouldn't wear a necklace.
I'm very open to ideas. Thanks!
