@butterfliesandhoney:  I don’t think that is too early and our dinner will be served around a similar time.

We’re having the same problem. (We’re getting married at 6:00, and we don’t want to start dinner before 9:00)

We have guessed that the ceremony will last for about 30 minutes, but it won’t start at 6:00 sharp, so between signing the registry, taking pictures inside the Church, greeting everyone outside, etc. We guess we won’t leave before 7:00. That gives us a 2-hour gap before dinner… I don’t know if we will do a longer cocktail (1 hour and 30 minutes, perhaps?)

Let see if other bees help us!!!

I think that’s ok actually. Everyone will get seated and organized and you could have the venue hold off on actually serving anything until 5:30. Then you have a buffer if things are running behind, if you want to do some speeches, etc. plus people just take a while to get organized anyway.

Do the toasts and speechs and start dinner around 5:15-5:30. Ours will start around there.

Dinner starting at 5 sounds fine.  Factor in the number of courses you’ll be having plus speeches and all the dances, that’ll take up some time for sure.

@butterfliesandhoney:  Often photos fill the gap. We had a 3.00 ceremony. By the time all congratulations at the church were done it was getting close to 4, I think. We got to the reception venue around 4.15, and had photos at the reception venue which was really handy because guests could have drinks while we had our photos taken. (I guess it was cocktail hour but we didn’t call it that). Then the repeption started some time between 5.30 and 6.
