TwinkleBoss:  Contact a local college with a reputable photography department. I would phone the chair of the department and ask for recommendations of their most promising students who might be interested in gaining a bit of experience for a small fee. I would have killed for that kind of experience when I was a student.

I would contact photographers whose work you admire and let them know that while they’re out of your budget, you really admire their work and ask if they can recommend a junior photographer or someone in their network just starting out with the same style.  A lot of times when we were trying to negotiate pricing, photographers would suggest a junior photographer to keep the price down and were happy to give that person some business.  Good luck! 🙂

Ask around…. make a posting on craiglist… but i think your best bet will be contacting local colleges with photography departments. Just call/email the chair of the department or teacher of the class and tell them you have a job and you’re looking for a student building their portfolio.

TwinkleBoss:  I actually went on Craigslist and found someone who did it for free. He was young but very experienced and wanted to build his portfolio. We eloped so didn’t feel the need to pay thousands of dollars for a $200 ceremony. Pictures came out great, however there was no direction of how to take the pictures. I had to come up with all the possess and had no one to make sure my dress, hair… Was in place for the pictures and minimal editing. I did my own editing. But can’t complain, you get what you pay for, in my case free. Lol I do wish we would’ve spent some money on a more professional photographer though. But we still got some great pictures from him. Oh and I live in Anaheim and we got married in Silverado canyon. Not too far from Anaheim.

Or if you’re crafty about web searches… you might be able to look on places like twitter/instagram/flickr for photography students near anaheim.

Hi,

Please let us know where and when is your wedding and perhaps it will be easier to help you with this.

I can ask around if you want to.

TwinkleBoss:  I’m planning from the bay too! My wedding will be in LA although I’m from OC.  My photographer is running me $1500 for 7 hours and an engagement shoot. I searched for photographers closer to $1000 and I almost went with one who is $1250 for 8 hours and engagement session.  I know they have cheaper packages for less hours. pm me if you want the info.  Also check on Theknot.com they have a search tool that you can search under $1000.

Have you checked facebook? There are quite a few photographers I have found on there that are really inexpensive because they’re trying to build their portfolio/business.
