Contact a local university or study abroad program and see if they have any photography students . . . honestly, that is a tough call. IF you really want to be assured of what you're getting, you will probably have to bring someone with you. Perhaps also see if theres a cruise line that comes by the area where you are who has a good photographer on board that you could also hire while they're stopping there (really thinking outside the box here) or maybe a local hotel.
Honestly, I just googled for one, "bali wedding photographer." I checked out their websites/blogs and a couple of them had the style I was looking for.
Another option would be to do an online search for weddings that took place in Turkey or that area and see who their vendors were. I did one on google images "bali wedding" and on sites like StyleMePretty.
Good luck!
@vogooch: Trying going to these awesome wedding photography directories:

3) wpja
Good luck!
I definitely second ipwsp. When we were looking in Europe we found amazing photographers.

I am trying to find a good photographer (probably in the Cappadocia region of Turkey). When I look at the photography offered through packages, it all looks very amateur. I am a hobbyist, and I think I could take better pictures. How do you guys find decent photographers when you do destination weddings? Anyone know how I could do this? (I am literally just hiring an officiant and a photographer - super simple elopement wedding!) ANy help would be great!
