I don’t think it’s horrible since it is a park, I think it’s something you have to work with rather than against. One idea tha popped into my head is to create sort of an “aisle” with rolls of sod and then lining that with tiki torches or scattered flowers along the edges. It would create a focal point rather than a wide open space.

I think it looks fine. Trying to cover it up would be more hassle than payoff, I think. Decorate above it nicely, and noone will be looking at their feet.

I also think the picnic tables will be fine. Just use nice tablecloths, and take care to seat elderly people at the end, rather than in the middle of a bench.

I would not try to cover up the gravel. It would be expensive and unnecessary.

The park is where you fell in love-gravel and all.

I think the best thing to do it just leave it alone. If you try to do something to cover it up, it will draw everyone’s eyes down. My sister’s wedding had gravel everywhere, and we didn’t do anything to try to cover it, we kept everyone’s eyes on the tables, string lights and hanging pomanders. You didn’t even notice it. One suggestion would be to advice flats or wedges in the invites. That is what we did, and all the girls understood once they showed up. Walking on gravel in heels is not fun. The girls who wore their 4 inchers anyway were fun to watch. I think the picnic tables would look nice. With the look of the park, it would fit, and that expense could be used elsewhere, (more flowers, lights to drape, topiaries etc.).

We’re having our reception in a barn with a crushed limestone floor…don’t try to cover it up! We explored SO many different options (renting a floor, straw or hay, carpet, turf, etc) but everything was either really expensive or really ugly. I really don’t think anyone will think of the reception like a tailgate party just because of the gravel. PS I’ve also been to a reception with picnic tables and seen some adorable pics online (Google Image search wedding reception picnic table).

    Good luck!
