I love the long, strewn-out centerpieces that stretch along the length of the table! Or varying heights of vases, etc. Google rectangle tables wedding reception...I got some great ideas that way! Runners are gorgeous too. Good luck!
@littlemiss: isn't it crisp and clean? i got it from doing a search for long table centerpieces... .
@cre, so beautiful! I'm thinking of stealing the idea for a garden party. It screams tea and crumpets to me :) So chic and elegant!
I love love love long tables! Our venue has all round ones and it's absolutely killing me cause I wanted long ones.

And just for fun...

oh i think rectangle tables are by default more elegant than round! as you can see in the pics posted above they look great. just make sure you have plenty of flowers and candles running down the center... nothing is worse than dinky looking centerpieces.
Yeah, I think rectangle tables look more modern. They are my preference, looks wise. Strewn out centerpieces are also more modern, IMO, so it shouldn't be a problems. Lots of candles, vary height. Wallah!
im using rectangular tables just because i like the family feeling... im using white linens and black runners. each table will have three maroccan lantern with red candles inside plus there will be two red charger with some small tins with candy inside... i liek rectangular better than round...
@MrsJellyBean227 What's your budget? I don't think this is all that cheap but it looks REALLY striking and eye catching it's a lot of color and very sleek and modern. I wish I had a picture because I'm sure this is gunna sounds crazy without the visual but . . . I saw someone use sheets of mosaic tiles like the kind you use for bathrooms or mirrors etc (like the attached pic). They used the tiles as a runner instead of fabric, with candles scattered around and smaller square vases with orchids floating in them. They have so many great colors that those tile come in I always thought it would be fun to do an event using those!
Love it! We are going to view our venue this weekend and will find out the type of tables that are used. I secretly hope for rectangular lol!!
My sister's venue comes with rectangle tables included in the venue price...round tables were 10 bucks a pop...soooo...we're going with rectangular and they will all be connected in a U-shape....we are doing alternating tall and short centerpieces with candles. I think it looks really modern and elegant.
@ja:i love them in a u-shape, especially with the mockup that you created! it will look sooo awesome!
Here are some more cost effective ideas as well. You could make your own different fabric runners which you could get at Joann I think (really you could get any fabric and if you're in a major city you can get some great deals in the fabric district). I LOVE the idea of putting out breadsticks in the mason jars on the table!
One of my FAVE for rectangles . . . sorry can you tell I like this style . . . sheets of grass or moss! Isn't this so pretty! You could probably get sheets of moss at save-on-crafts.com
Sorry posting problems, I'll post tomorrow when I am at work and I have my trusty photoshop and can adjust the size.
@crebre...my sis wanted it to be as cozy as possible considering the number of guests (130).
I think our rectangular tables looked very elegant-- I had silver crinkle taffeta runners on top of white linens, with mercury glass taper candleholders with ivory tapers and smaller vases with a mix of soft pastel roses (DIY). The tables looked so beautiful, with all the candlelight and mix of heights.

@ja: i totally agree. we'll only have about 50 or so guests so we are in the same boat, but i really hope they have rectangular tables, if not i'll make due with the rounds.
Those pictures are great. I love the idea of putting them in a u. I'd never considered making a shape in them, aside from in lines.
We are doing long tables as well. I love the feel and it actually will allow for more guest conversation than the standard rounds.

I LOVE round tables, unfortunately no venue in my area has enough for our guest list and renting them is about 8-12 bucks each. Not so great when you're trying to be frugal.
So rectangle tables here I come. I'm trying to collect as many ideas as I can at the moment. So lay your ideas on me
