WIth the slit, I think you are pretty limited unless you have a seamstress add more layers of the same fabric that the dress is made of, using a crinoline underneath (which is how most dresses have 'poof' would show and I don't think would look very good if you could see it.
yeah... i'm not sure how you could do this for a dress with a slit. normally you could just add a crinolin slip or something, but the slit makes this tricky.
