I don’t think they’re bad at all. They’re plain, at least, and will just fade into the background. Any attempt to fancy ’em up (sashes, ribbons) will just draw attention to them.

I recommend just leaving them alone. Nobody’s going to notice them.

I actually kind of like them, but my taste is more clean/modern. I see how it wouldn’t fit if you like vintage. Maybe you could do a sash that’s oriented vertically? And/or hang something like a brooch off the back. I’m not usually a fan of sashes, but that could be cool because it wouldn’t look like a typical sash.

I actually think they are better than folding chairs so certainly don’t go paying $5 a chair to change them.  I agree with Danadelphia that a sash or something similar will draw attention to them.  I would just do bold colors or designs for your linens and place settings like the pic you showed and no one will notice the chairs.  I’m a chair snob (had to have the chivari) and I really don’t think these are bad.

I wish I had those chairs. If you wanted to add another punch of white, you could do a table runner in white. Then you have the white runner, white plates, and white chairs

Those are not bad at all! I would leave them as is.

Here are the awful chairs from my function hall, you can’t really see the whole chair, but the top gives you an idea of their heinousness… but i can’t justify $7 per chair for covers!!!

@MandaMack: maybe a deep red sash tied to hang vertically…definitely not a bow

There’s nothing wrong with those chairs!  At least they’re not upholstered in some fabric that totally clashes with your colors.  I say leave them alone, unless you want to draw attention to the chairs.  White goes with everything.
