- Wedding: October 2013
Hi fellow Bees!
After much debate, my fiance and I have finally settled on dessert items. We’ve bounced back and forth between traditional cake (I’m not a fan & my fiance refuses to cut it in front of everyone) and ice cream cake (my fav, but maybe not appropriate for October!). We’ve settled on cheesecake in a variety of flavors, cookies in variety of our favorite flavors, and two kinds of spicy chocolate from our favorite chocolate shop (these will be in bite-size pieces guests can nibble on). We asked our friend’s mom to do the cheesecake and cookies, but we were a little shocked when she gave us a quote – $50 a cheesecake! And we’ll need about 12 for 120 people – each cheesecake serves about 12 people.
I’d like to try and negotiate the price down a little, but because the caterer is my friend’s mom I don’t want to offend her. Do any of you have suggestions for how to ask to lower the price? My other thought is to ask her to scrap the cookies (which are reasonably priced, but would overall help lower the bill) and be honest with her that we just don’t have the $ in our budget for everything. With the cookies she quoted us about $770, and adding on the gratuity % equals $900!. I have no idea what a wedding cake would run for 120, but this just seemed a little on the higher side.
Any advise is much appreciated!
