Is it pronounced like Marilyn in Marilyn Monroe but with a “d”? Sorry, english is not my native language, but I voted Madelyn.

They all look pretty contrived, sorry. “Madelyn” is the best of the lot, but they all look like attempts to be kryatyv with “Madeline/Madeleine,” the more traditional spellings.

@nearlymarriedlass:  I think the classiest, most traditional spelling is Madeleine, which is usually pronounced as “madalin” although some people might say it “madaLINE.” If you don’t like Madeleine I guess I would go with Madelyn or Madilyn but definitely not Madelin or Madalyn, those look odd.

@nearlymarriedlass:  Madelyn. That’s my doctors name, so it reminds me of a smart lady. That’s good, right? It’s a family practice with multiple doctors sharing a last name, so I even call her Dr. Madelyn. It’s a nice name. 🙂

I prefer Madeleine, but of the options, I voted Madilyn that way if you shorten it to Madi, you’re not changing the name even more so.

@nearlymarriedlass:  I think Madelyn is fine. I would pronounce “Madeleine” as Mad-e-line

@nearlymarriedlass:  My name is spelled ‘M-a-d-e-l-i-n-e’, but it’s  pronounced as ‘Mad-a-lyn’, which actually seems to be farley common. t’s rare that anybody will try to pronounce my name as Mad-e-line, and if they then do I’ll just correct them and then they don’t do it again. It’s really not a problem.

Out of the ones you’ve listed though, i like Madelyn best. I really dislike all the other variations.

Twelve little girls, all in a line, and the smallest of all was Madeleine…right?  So it rhymes with line.

I like Madelyn, but I’m biased because I had a friend with that name who died.  My cousin just named his daughter after her (middle name).  So go Madelyn!!

Madeleine- it will be much easier for the poor girl to correct the tiny handful of people who try the French pronounciation first than the overwhelming majority who will spell it “wrong” by spelling it right. It’s such a classic, beautiful name to begin with-  adding the “lyn” ending will make it so very trendy early 2000’s.

I have a family member who intentionally misspelled their child’s very traditional name to try to “guarantee” that people would pronounce it a certain way and use a certain nickname, rather than just rely on their own ability to say “No, it’s [x]” if people mispronounced it, and I cringe every time I see it written out. It looks… uninformed.
