Hi ladies! I have an interesting problem on my hands. My wedding dress came in WAY early, like many months too early. It will be ready for pick up in 2 weeks (including alterations) & my wedding isn't until July of next year! What is the best way to store my dress until the wedding? I cannot leave it at the shop. I keep reading about how I need to store it in acid free paper or special breathable bags and things like that, but is that really necessary? I was just planning on keeping it in the back of my sister's closet til the wedding. Reading all these boards online is making me a little paranoid. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Does it have any sterling silver on it, on the beads or the thread itself? If so, you should store it in a non-breathable bag (plastic) until the wedding to prevent the silver from tarnishing. Same goes for any silver accessories. This is what my salon told me about my gown, which is covered in glass beads painted in sterling silver.

ehh, i have the same problem.  it's currently hanging on some rack with my seamstress lady and has been for the past 3 months because we're waiting to alter it until closer to my wedding date.  i've got all kinds of silver/clear beads and crystals on it.  i'm not stressing about it.  i think it'll be fine.  if it's not hanging in my closet, it'll be hanging in hers.  put it this way, if i didn't purchase the dress, it'd be hanging somewhere in a store or in china where it was made.  no matter what, i think it will be fine.

just hang it in your sister's closet.  the only thing i'd want to do is make space for it.  wouldn't want it be too smushed, y'kno?

When I picked up my dress they said to unzip the bag I had it in, wrap a clean white sheet around it.  Then they said to wrap it back up and leave it.  However, they said to make sure to take it out and unzip it a couple weeks before the wedding to let it air out.

Since the bag you'll have it in will most likely be plastic, you don't want it to have a plasticy smell.
