I am working on our wedding website this weekend, and I opened our registries (we aren’t actually putting anything other than a panini maker on any of them until October, but hey, it was fun to open!).
I am trying to figure out a polite way to say “no gift wrapping or boxes” for as many gifts as possible. We actually got a few engagement gifts already (I was surprised..), and of course, they were covered in wrapping and ribbons. The gifts were beautiful but we are big on the “Go Green” movement, so how can I discourage people from wrapping/boxing most gifts?
I know this probably won’t work for showers and the wedding, but it will cut down on some of the paper when people buy things online and ship it to us (I expect this will happen a lot, we have a ton of out of state guests).
Any ideas? All I can come up with is “We prefer no gift wrapping or special boxes”.

What about “In order to keep our wedding as green and waste-free as possible, we prefer no gift wrapping or special boxes,”

Some registries actually give you an option to check to let guests know that you prefer no gift wrap.
For instance Macys does and right on our registry page it says:
“We’re protecting the environment and prefer gifts without gift wrap or box”
Hope that helps!

I think any of those suggestions would work, and I feel like with something like this, word of mouth would be the most effective. Let your family and friends know and ask them to spread the word. Honestly, I think most of your younger guests would respect that wish, but I feel like your older guests might not be able to resist having your gifts wrapped.

@danadelphia–oooh i like that idea!! thats good wording.
@ladygoodman–yeah, we figured a lot of older guests wouldn’t want to do that, and we are okay with that. i think getting some of our family to tell guests is a good idea…most of our friends know that “going green” is important to us, so i don’t think it will be met with too much shock except for a few grandparents who may be shocked that i wont be carrying a ribbon bouquet at the rehearsal (i was leaning more towards broccoli…totally not kidding).
