Most of the thank you note etiquette I’ve read suggests that you should address the Thank You to whomever signed the card. That said I start all of my thank you notes to guests who attended by thanking them for attending. I’m trying to figure out a non-awkward way to do this when I’m writing a thank you note for a gift that was from a family of five and only two of them attended. I don’t want to say “thanks so much for coming” in a thank you note that’s addressed in part to people who weren’t able to attend, but at the same time I don’t want to leave them out of the thank you note since they signed the card.
