Went to a wedding last weekend and we just came up and grabbed our own cupcakes. I didn’t see a problem with it

I’ve experienced both. Personally, I preffered when the waiting staff came around with a tray and asked me which type I would like. It was easier than walking up to where the tower was and waiting in line to pick one. Plus less people touched them. Some people would grab one then put it back because they changed their mind…gross.

As a guest I would probably prefer to be served my cupcake, but that being said we had a cupcake tower and we did not pass them out.  We had I think 6 different flavors, so unless the staff was going to wheel around entire carts it wasn’t feasible to go handing them out.  So, with just a few flavors it would be ok to have them passed out, but with more than a few it’s just logistically easier to have people come get their own.

With three flavors you can have the serving staff bring them around and ask what people want.  You can have them encourage people to try two if they want, or just have them ask and then tell people they can try another flavor if they want, they’ll be up there.

We had three flavors of wedding cake and I specifically had them ask people what they want.  I hate it when I get a piece of chocolate thrown at me when I really wanted the vanilla.  Everyone ate my orange creamsicle.  I even saw an uncle with a piece of each – ha.

I would have the crew come around with one each for everyone and have the remainder of the ones that would be enough for seconds on the tower so people can freely go up for seconds, get the wait staff to let them know maybe?

We had ours on the tables as part of the center pieces, that way people could pick (we had 3 flavors) and had enough for the people to have more than one and different flavors. It was easy and meant no lines.

How many guests are you anticipating? I think with a smaller (under 100 person) wedding, getting up to go get their own might be fine.  Personally, I’d rather the cupcakes be brought to the table, as I would be the person to just forego the cupcake instead of throw a few elbows to get the one I wanted Tongue Out

To put it into perspective… in my classroom, my kids are nevvvvver allowed to all get up at once.  It’s a disaster waiting to happen.  Now, I know your entire guest list isnt made up of 9 and 10 year olds, but I know plenty of adults who act like children when cupcakes are involved!

The wedding I was at this weekend had cupcakes and I liked that I had a choice to choose my own flavor. I would say have them plated if you are worried about someone tipping your tower but definitely let your guest’s choose which one they want.

We had cupcakes and we let people come up to get them BUT we had two people designated to pass them to the guest so that way guests wouldn’t grab more than one and it was less people touching them (especially kids).
