I love the name Selah, but am curious as to how others would pronounce/spell it.
I personally pronounce it [SEE-lah].
I would pronounce it "Say - lah," like the Biblical musical notation and the contemporary Christian singing group.
Just from looking at it I'd pronounce it as "cell-uh" cel like cell phone.
I think my first instinct would be to pronounce it SEE-Lah like you mentioned. :)
say-lah.
But I wanted to say that no matter if it's See-lah, say-lah, or sell-lah, its still pretty :) I like the first two pronunciations better though.
Wow, so many different responses!
I do also like Say-lah, and was my other choice for pronunciation. I don't like sell-uh as much, LOL.
Do you think the name would get mispronounced/misspelled too often?
If people pronounce is it Say-lah other people are going to think her name is Sailor. Just saying ;)
A friend of mine and her husband named their daughter Selah. They're religious, so they pronounce it "SAY-luh" which I assume is the correct pronunciation.
Honestly, I would have no idea how to pronounce it if she hadn't posted the pronunciation on Facebook as soon as they announced the baby's name. In my book, if you have to include a pronunciation with a name, you might want to reconsider how much you love it.
sell-uh, but the other pronounciations are better haha.
Sell-uh - not keen on how that sounds, but that is how I'd pronounce it if I saw that name. Other pronounciations sound better.
Very pretty name but I'd beware of it sounding too close to "sailor" or "cellar."
Say-lah. but mostly because there's a gorgeous Lauryn Hill song called "Selah" and that's how she pronounces it
Coming from a person with a REALLY hard to pronounce name... it's really not that bad and I still LOVE my name!
I would pronounce it Say-Lah
at first I thought "Say-lah" and then "Cell-uh" I would have NEVER guessed "SEE-lah"
edit: also http://www.forvo.com/word/selah/
@AcheneMalefic: you will probably get a lot of different pronunciations with this name. if you want people to pronounce it a certain way, i would spell it phonetically.
from your spelling, i would pronounce it say-lah and i think it's a very pretty name. if that's how you want it to be pronounced, i'd spell it seyla or seylah.
I thought say-lah because of the biblical connection, but Sela I would say as "see-lah" (probably only though because of Sela Ward)
