I would place uplights at the columns or on the walls between the windows. However, there's no one holding you down saying you HAVE to use the uplights that come with the DJ. If you don't picture them at your wedding, don't use them. If your wedding really is more like the first photo, they'd be pointless anyways, as your reception is happening during the day.
@Alleycat: oops, I meant that picture is more the style of wedding we're having. The reception is in the evening, 5:30-10:30 pm.
From the style photo you posted it looks like light amber uplights (just adding a candlelight type glow) would look nice. It will depend on the type of uplights your DJ has as you would need standar fixtures (LEDs do not do a good job with the warm colors, especially light amber).

I recently changed DJ's and my new contract includes uplighting. Lighting is not something I considered before and I'm at a loss as to how to use it. The reception is in the evening and lights will be dimmed.
