I picked up an elliptical at Wal Mart for $268 and use it daily or everyother. When I do every other I do an ab work out DVD and sit ups most every night.

My goal - to get rid of the "bat wing" (or muffin top as my Dr pal calls it) and to tone up, maybe drop 5 lbs.

I have hired a personal trainer that I meet with 3 times a week for an hour each session. On top of that I do cardio on my own for 30-45 minutes 3 days a week. I used to be very athletic but after college when I started working behind a desk I deffinetly noticed the weight gain. I am not trying to lose weight just for the wedding, but for my overall health and hopefully long life.

I am feeling great and noticing the changes mind/body/spirit. Once you get yourself a ruitine it is amazing how easy it gets.

Good luck to all of you ladies, I hope each of you reach your goals.

I'm fairly active anyways. But I am trying harder with lifting heavier weights and taking 2 yoga classes weekly to get buffed up!

I don't think I'll start dieting until a few months in advance! I still have a while to go :)

I'm not really "dieting" just eating better. - At least if I call it that, maybe it will make passing over that bag of chips eaiser!!!

I am keeping track of my daily caloric intake using SparkPeople.  It is really helpful - it helped me figure out I wasn't getting enough protein each day (which is why I was starving)!  I highly recommend it!

I've been lazy about the gym.  I am supposed to go 5 times a week but can't get myself out of the house on weeknights!  I vow to start in March.

I have been trying to diet by eating less sugar and carbs.  I think that is working, though I still want to tone up a lot in the next 2 months.

    Good luck ladies!

I use SparkPeople as well, and I've lost 17 pounds since August. 3 more to go to my goal weight! I wish I had a little bit more time to lift weights; I only tend to get one weight session in a week. But today was such a gorgeous day that my co-worker and I walked to lunch!

I've been running 4 miles 3-4 times a week which has been great to get me back in shape from my soccer playing days. I don't "diet" but I eat eat healthy.

As I've always been pretty active, for me its just about deciding to do it and get myself to the gym.  If you can just get yourself there, you will work out and see results!  Good Luck Everyone!

FI and I started eating better in general -- which was actually pretty easy since we love us some steamed broccoli-- and hitting the gym 3 days a week. We started this all in September and so far I've lost about 16 pounds! (A skeptical little part of me, however, believes that the weight loss is due to me going off birth control...I hope not!)

Haha, steamed broccoli is so helpful for dieting or just eating healthy!  I love the prepackaged broccoli florets at Trader Joe's - just pop it in the microwave.  They are so filling!

I just tried on a pair of skinny jeans that I bought MONTHS ago but couldn't even get past my hips - they fit today!  I can't believe it.

Although the number on the scale isn't what I want to see yet, it seems I have lost a few inches around the thighs and waist and abs.  I am so excited.  I hope I can keep it up.

I joined a gym and went almost everday for the first two months. Unfortunately, I caught the cold last month and haven't gone since. I recently began working out again by using my work-out dvds and weights. I'm trying to stick to veggies and fruits but find it difficult at times. I also want to start doing yoga again. Anyone find yoga helpful? If so, how often do you do it?

I find yoga very helpful; however, I've been home sick with the flu for a week now, so I haven't done anything.  My wedding is in August, so I purchased a personal training package for the summer -- I plan to work out 3 days a week with my trainer for the months of June and July, hopefully that will be enough not only to look good on the wedding day, but also on the beach in Jamaica.

My only real dilemma... my wedding dress arrives in May, and how/when do I do my fitting if I don't start working out until June?  I don't need to lose weight, I need to reduce the size of my waist by about 1 1/2 inches ( I really need to work on my core, sit-ups, etc...).

Trying to be more conscious of what I eat (i.e. replacing candy w/ special k bars!)  Also going to an intense aerobics class 4 x/week (www.barmethod.com).  If anyone is in SF, LA or Chicago - this is insanely excruciating, but IT WORKS!  I hate exercising (especially in groups) but I love this!  I lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks.   Warning: it's addictive and expensive.

I'm just trying to lose another 5 or so pounds and tone up my arms and thighs.  What's up with thighs?

Caliocteach- I am getting married in August and honeymooning in Jamaica as well!! Good luck!

My goal is my first fitting and not my actual wedding date!! I have already lost about 10 pounds and would like to lose 10 more by May. After that I want to focus  toning up until the wedding day. I have definitely been increasing my visits to the gym latetly. Though, with the cold weather extra motivation is really needed to get out the door!!

My wedding is June 9.  I need to lose 20 more pounds to fit in my dress!!!  But, I got a really great deal on it & couldn't pass it up.  So, after having 2 children, I don't have time for the gym so I purchased a fold up treadmill & Richard Simmons DVD collection.  I know it sounds corny but I am inspired to see people of all sizes exercising.  I hate watching exercise DVD's with 20 year old models.  It's depressing.  I would rather see real looking people, I think - if they can do it, I can do it!  I'm also drinking ALOT of water, watching what I eat (most of the time) and buying healthy snacks for the whole family to avoid temptation.  I love sherbert.  Good Luck!

I have less than 5 months til my wedding.  I've been doing the elliptical everyday or every other day, like Sweeney2be, and once or twice a week I do the Wedding Work-Out video (cardio, arms & abs).  Also I just started taking Proactol after meals.  Haven't really seen results on the scale yet but my tummy is slimmer.

Also, I ordered the Suzanne Somers thigh-master.. lol

Hopefully it will work. Ive NEVER been really active so im praying the switch up will help!.. Well...I just unofficially commited myself to another marathon (its <1 month before the wedding!) so my workouts are going to get stepped up, wedding or not.  In our new house I have NO time to workout in the morning (literally- have to leave the house at 6:15) so daylight savings is a godsend for me!

I am also trying to incorperate pilates/yoga.  To tone up for my strapless dress, and because in a marathon my back is always the first thing to go- I NEED a stronger core!

I am also going to start keeping a food journal again bc that has really helped me in the past

I think it's all about variety. That way you won't get bored!

I've been doing total body weights + 30 minutes cardio 3 days a week, a yoga video 2 days a week, and just going for walks (or being lazy) the other days. I think it's best to keep a balance. And with this combo I can tone up, lose a little extra fat (and keep my heart heathy) and lengthen my muscles!

If anyone has any nutritional questions I have a degree in nutrition and can help you out!

I've started working out this week (I'm on a leave of absence while I student teach, so it's given me a little more free time).  I've done 30 mins of cardio 4x this week and upper body strength training once, lower body twice.  I hope to stick with this regimen for awhile because we are one year out!  My goal is to lose 50 lbs by next year... I'm trying to eat healthier by packing my lunches each day, too.  We'll see!

I signed up for SparkPeople but their workout thing is totally whack.  I can't add "machine" exercises... all they have for strength training is ball/free weights.  Hmph.

hey guys - i started a new workout regime and i'm actually seeing results, only one week after starting.  i swear!  it's Power 90.  it's just basically a workout video, and you work out to it 6 days a week.  3 days you do cardio and 3 days you do circuit weight training.  it's incredible but my stomach is flatter, my legs are more toned and i'm in agony.  i'm on the beginners too!  once you notice the workout is too easy, you stick a harder version of the workout in the dvd player.

buy it on ebay!  i got my copy from someone on craigslist, it only cost $30 (rather than the really high price on the beachbody website).

oh yeah, another thing that's nice about this is that you just need a mat and some free weights (or resistance band).

This is an ab workout that my sister (who is studying to be an Athletic Trainer) sent me, and I've been trying to stick to :-P.  I try and do it every night while watching tv, and before bed.

3 Sets:  Each set consists of doing the following without stopping in between

    30 Regular Crunches
30 Crunches with legs in the air (hips at 90°
15 Crunches (right arm to left knee)
15 Crunches (left arm to right knee)
    Bicycles until you’re tired

Regular planks- 3 sets, 1 minute each
Side planks-4 minutes (3 times per side, 40 seconds each) done continually switching from side to side
Leg Lifts- 3 sets, 1 minute each (lay on back and hold legs 3-6 inches of the floor….be sure not to arch your back too much because that takes away from the effect on the abs, you can place your hands under your butt to help with this)

Workout lasts 20-30 minutes depending on how long you rest in-between.  I suggest making a playlist on your iPod, it helps the time go by faster.

Hey! Well, I perform and teach bellydancing all the time, so that's one way of working out, but I've been branching out to 'cross-train' and now do cardio twice a week and an hour long weight class twice a week as well. My goal is to mostly is to up my overall level of fitness, but also to tone up the arms and upper back in preperation for the dress. I've also discovered Bikram or hot yoga and now attend one class a week. It's fantastic! Helps to detoxify your body and helps to releive stress.

I'm also keeping a closer eye on my food choices...trying to avoid anything deep fried or laden with rich sauces and be mindful of portion control.

if you're looking for a way to track your food intake and exercise, try gyminee.  i've been using it for a few months & really like it.   they have different workouts you can try out or you can build your own.  also, it's totally free.

I go to the gym as many times a week as my job allows and since it's been nice out, I've been walking and then lifting weights at home. I've lost 15 pounds since last summer and at my dress fitting on Tuesday (yesterday, I guess) my dress fit AWESOME! It's such a good motivation to have something tangible after all of the hard work.

FI has a larger problem, however, because he likes to decompress after work by sitting in front of the television until he goes to bed, playing computer games during that time. So I've got to figure out a way to get him moving. Today he was "too tired" to go for a walk, even though I threw attitude at him for not doing anything to work out or make himself better for the wedding/our life. He really needs to lose probably 50 pounds to be healthy and live long. Fortunately, I've scheduled a doctors appointment for him next week and I'm hoping what the doc tells him will shock him into doing something. Any advice on that front? I feel like I've exhausted all of my tactics. I tried ignoring it, shopping better (which has actually worked a little), actually going to his workplace to walk with him, dropping hints like "so, yeah, you can just bike during lunch" since there's a workout facility in his building, and nothing. And he travels on the weekends so it's not like he's going to do anything there. Sorry that was so long, I'm just so frustrated.

Keep up the good work ladies!

I think it would be a great idea for you jma19.  You say that your FI plays video games to decompress.  There are a lot of good games for Wii, and they will get you up and moving, and as missrae said above, its something to do together!

I haven't really been doing anything.  =X  In the last month I have lost 7 pounds and believe me when I say I do eat.  Plus I think I've only gone to the gym twice.  Since January of this year I have lost 12 pounds.  I weighed in at 147 in the beginning of January.  Now I'm 130/131.  I did cut back on rice (I'm asian..so rice was an everyday thing) and soda.  I'm only 4'9 and my ideal weight is 105-110.  There is no way that I would want to weight that much, so I'm aiming for at least 125.  =)

I'm hoping to hit the gym a little bit more and stop hitting up the fast food restaurants.

i've been watching my calories... also just joined a boxing gym called LA Boxing... over 100 gyms nation wide, about $70 a month but i figure if i was working with a personal trainer it would cost more than that on a weekly basis!

so i'm going 3 days a week... each class burns about 1000 calories ... YEP 1000! and it works your whole body! it's amazing check them out

I'm going to a personal trainer 2x a week to start. Have to pick up the cardio in between too. Also went to a nutrionist b/c my skin has been acting up under all of the stress AND I was putting on weight- totally the opposite of what I'm trying to do. Just found out that I have an underactive thyroid which caused the weight gain, so now I have to battle the junk food AND my lazy thyroid in time for the big day... Trying to drop 20-25 lbs. for a November wedding and am down 4.4 so far.
