I am in a similar position. I have all the big things out of the way and am in a holding pattern until November.
I too have booked venue, DJ (also doing ceremony music), photographer, dress, and I picked out maids dresses just need to go and order in the next few weeks (although it is still a little early I have an out of state maid who I may not get to see again till January so that is the reason for the rush).
Just registered to register with Crate in Barrel on 10/4 one of their wedding events (again a little early but I don't want to worry about it come the holidays). Tastings are in November, and then I guess I need to do invites and flowers along with groom/groomsmen attire.
Good Luck!
I also feel the same! A lot of people have been asking how planning is going and I feel like things are currently at a stand still.
We have booked our photographer, DJ, florist, ceremony/cocktail hour musicians (all musical family members), I bought my dress, ordered dresses from jcrew for the bridal party to try out, and we are deciding on our caterer this week. I don't think there will be too much more wedding stuff going on until late September/October.
We haven't even thought about registering yet.. I guess I'm not sure when you're supposed to do that?
Oh, date twin! :) You've done more than I have! We just booked our venue and set out date a few weeks ago, so I've been working on some of the stuff that you've already done.
I have my dress, veil, and earrings, and I made my hair flower today.
We booked a venue that includes catering and linen rentals. We have a tasting with them on Sunday.
We registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. We have to go back to add bedding and stuff, but figure we have plenty of time - we just got the basic kitchen essentials down.
We met with a photographer, I just have to fill out the paperwork.
Otherwise, I have bought some stuff for DIY centerpieces, but haven't done much with them.
You say you are getting your STD's soon? I haven't even thought about those yet. When are they supposed to be sent out?
I'm also getting married on 5/22/10. We have a ceremony/reception location (also doing food), photographer, and DJ all booked. I'm working on assembling my save the dates now and will send them out this fall. I bought my dress but still need a veil. I'm in the middle of figuring out the hotel blocks, and the hair salon suggested booking the ladies' hair appointments now because of the proms and other events.
Gosh, now I feel a bit behind. I've picked a venue (a bit financially strapped this month, waiting to put down the deposit, have fingers crossed), an officiant, and a photographer. Working on picking out my dress right now. Still so much left to do...still need to figure out my bridal party! Eek...
I actually still have 2.5 years to go. Just started looking at venues and caterers. After that is done I will be waiting another year until booking other vendors. Partially because it is so early. And partially because I am going back to school to get my Masters so I can only concentrate on wedding stuff during breaks from school.
@ClaraJudgeypants: Oh PROMS! I didn't even think of that. None of our guests will be in high school, so that won't be a problem, but that's a good point about hair appts. Possibly flowers, too?
I, too, have booked all the major vendors. The only thing I'm starting to really stress about is finding a hair and makeup person.
I have my dress & veil, sent out STD's (half of our guest list will be traveling out of state so we wanted to give ample time), picked BM dress color (they are picking their own dresses), started collecting jars for candy bar, started getting things together for favors, and I pretty much know what I want for invites and where to get everything.
I just wish I could finish already!
We have the same day!!
I have:
-booked the venue, dj, florist, photographer, church, met with officiant
-had engagement pictures taken
-started a million and one projects
-ordered my dress and shoes
-blocked my hotel rooms
-getting ready to send out save the dates in a couple weeks
-have bridesmaids dresses
I think that might be all of it?! haha
Hmm ... you ladies bring up some good points about prom. In addition to hair salons, limos might book up or be more expensive, too. I've also run into college graduation problems - hotel rooms are extra expensive, although I managed to find a business hotel with cheap weekend rates that's far from all the campuses.
@ melodicsighs1: my STDs are gradually going in the mail this month; I've read that they should be sent out 6-9 months before the wedding, but they are totally optional. I'm only sending them to out of towners and family (i.e. not my parents friends who live in the area of the wedding cuz I'm hoping a bunch of the RSVP no!!!)
I think that's perfectly normal to have a period of "down time" in your wedding planning. And if it's a long engagement, that period might be longer. I've had about 11 months to plan our wedding, and I know that after the initial business of the first two or three months, I then had two or three months where I really felt like I didn't do much.
Just stay organized and if there is something (like a DIY project) that you can work on now, then go ahead and do it and get it out of the way. If not, relax and enjoy this time, becuase it will get crazier!
You've done more than me! Whenever people ask, I always just say "It's coming fine, thanks for asking!" They usually don't really care what I've done already. If you want to give them a little peek into your world, make an additional comment about your next task "I just need to decide between periwinkle and cornflower then I choose the bridesmaids dresses" 9 times out of 10 they glaze over, nod and head to the nearest exit.
Woo for May 22, 2010!! I'm in the same boat. I really don't have anything going on. We have major stuff and are getting our e-pics done next week. We'll probably send out STDs in Nov. I think? One thing you could do now is begin gathering addresses. I don't know if anyone sends Xmas cards, but my FMIL gave us her Xmas card list and we had tons of addresses right there! It can take a while for ppl to get back to you, so starting this process early is a good idea.
Hmm what else. I'm currently searching for a veil and hair flower. Part of me wants to DIY a flower so I'll definitley need some time for that (I'm not crafty...at all.) I need to do room blocks and book transportation, too. Some one mentioned proms earlier. Since May is prime time prom season limos are going to fill up quick I think.
Happy planning, ladies!!
Another May 22 bride here! I feel so behind after reading everything you've done!
I've only booked our venue. I've designed our STD and invite suite, but haven't started making them yet. I have a pretty good idea of who we're going to use for catering and our dj service and I plan on giving them deposits next week. I've chosen our photographer (a friendor) but have yet to give him his deposit... i'm not worried about him booking our date.
I still have to start shopping for a dress, make a final decision on BM dresses, and complete all of a hundred million DIY projects I have in mind.
I should get to work on my STDs. I want to DIY them, so that could take a good chunk of time. and yeah, we need to send them b/c we have a lot of OOT guests and want people to stay the weekend at our venue. (It sleeps 40 people in their cabins, so if we book it up, we get the whole place to ourselves!)
Great idea about gathering addresses. I didn't even think about how difficult that might be!
Gosh I have soooooo much to do! I still need a cake, dress and I'm DIY-ing a lot of our stuff, so all that has to be done! And we need to finish registering... sigh. We also need hotel rooms and an officiant...
I am totally with you all on starting to gather addresses now. I think 60-70% of our guests are on facebook... so facebook group, here we come. :)
Question to you may ladies: where are all of you registered? We're doing BB&B and I don't know where else yet--maybe pottery barn or w-s, I just can't decide!
We just sent out our STDs last week. We've got our ceremony site, reception venue (owned by caterer), booked officiant, booked cake baker, dress ordered, constructed the wedding website - have a few details to finish on it. We registered for a few things to start the registry.
I am now focusing on the reception decor, whether I am crazy for wanting to DIY flowers (small wedding), menu ideas, searching for a photographer and a makeup/hair person.
@cinemaparadiso We are registered at Crate & Barrel, If there is one near you, they have parties where they invite you for food & drink and to help with your registry. I love their kitchen stuff and their furniture.

I'm getting married 5.22.2010. People keep asking me how wedding planning is going, and I don't have anything to tell them because I'm not really doing anything right now. Which makes me wonder what I should be doing. So, I wanted to check in and see how far along everyone is and what you are working on currently, now that we are 9 months out.
I've booked: venue, caterer, florist, photographer, reception band; I've found my dress, and my STDs should be delivered to me today and in the mail this weekend.
I still need to: register, find ceremony musicians, choose attire for the 'maids and 'men, design the invites (which I hope to do myself).
What am I forgetting? What am I behind on? Should I have registered already?
