I’ve heard all the “Don’t get an MBA from the same place as your undergrad” stuff but I was wondering how true is it? I graduated in 08 and worked in between. I want to go back to school for my MBA after the wedding and before kids.
There are other schools in my area but I’m not sure how it’s going to work out with our living situation. It would require my daily commute to be an hour to work in one direction, an hour to a different university in another direction and an hour home in an entirely different direction. The mileage would add up quick.
My workplace is within 20 minutes of where I received a BA from so I was wondering if it matters where I get the MBA from.

@jpalm13: If it is a real school (not for profit) youre probably fine. It also depends on how competitive you want to be when youre done. obviously some of the better programs offer better networking and job placement programs just by virtue of the professors and graduates.
If all you want is a normal position with the pay bump I say go to your undergrad institution!

@tangentialbee: Its highly unlikely we’d ever leave the state and my undergrad is from a state school. The main problem is commuting (we don’t have public transit for the majority of the state). One other option I have is scratching the MBA altogether (since everyone has it) and try to diversify myself with a MA in Mass Communications with a concentration on Public Relations. I currently have a BSBA (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) with a double concentration on Marketing and Advertising & Public Relations.
