I’ve been TTC for a year now and have just started all my infertility tests. I was in for a surprise yesterday when I had my HSG — I had no idea what it was going into it and assumed it was going to be like an ultrasound. Ummm, not quite! I still have pain today in my lower abdomen. It hurts to stand up straight, it hurts after I eat, and it hurts to go #2 (sorry for the image). Is that normal?
Also, I have an SIS test on Monday (saline hysterosonogram, I think). To anyone who’s had both procedures done: should I expect this to be as painful as the HSG? I want to start mentally prepping now if so!

@stillme: I’m sorry your HSG experience wasn’t a pleasant one. Potentially blocked tubes might explain some of your pain, I don’t know. My tubes were open and I only experienced some minor cramping the day off. Nothing the next day. I have no experience with SIS.
Please feel free to visit us over at the ttc 6months & up thread. There are a bunch of great ladies who will be going/are going/or have already done a big junk of the infertility testing.

@stillme: I’ve had both and the SIS isn’t as painful. The sensation of saline was different; it felt like douching to me. Do take ibprufoen because you will have some cramping.

The saline one is definitely better. I was in a lot of pain after my HSG dye test. It’s normal. I definitely agree with @squeak35 – take painkillers first.
