Ladies, the other thread was already ghost paging with only 4 pages....But I wanted you to be able to read about our NT scan so I thought I'd start a new one. So, continued from here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/august-2012-mamas-part-ii
@Keppa: I think it's just the way my Drs office does it. It seems pretty common to have to wait a bit for the results and to go to two separate places for the blood work and ultrasound.
So, Baby T is still alive and well. We had a great ultrasound, heartbeat was 160. The doctor said the baby has 10 fingers and 10 toes, all its organs are as well-formed as they should be at this point and it is measuring about 4 days earlier than we thought. So I guess my EDD is now August 4th. We were really happy after the ultrasound, it was great to see BabyT again, he had doubled in size since last time and looked much more baby-like!
But, then we got the results of the blood test combined with maternal age and the ultrasound and it was not what I was expecting. Basically the doctor explained that based on maternal age, we started off with a risk of 1/600, this number should go down with the ultrasound and with the blood tests. Our ultrasound was good, but the blood tests were not as good, so the combination of the two means that our risk factor is basicaly the same at 1/500. So, it is not a positive result and she was not concerned enough for us to do an amnio immediately. However, we do have to go back in for another ultrasound in 1 month to see how the baby is devoloping and hopefully bring our risk level down to 1/1000. After we left I admit that I went to the bathroom and cried a little, I was not expecting to hear iffy results. I realize that our risk level is still very promising and they are probably just being cautious and that we'll get an extra ultrasound out of it, but still I'm a little bummed.
So, to end on a happier note, here is Baby T:

Love that baby profile! And I think your odds are still quite good. It's hard not to stress about it, though. As for us, if you do the integrated screening you have 2 sets of bloodwork and 2 ultrasounds (the first of each are done on the same day). We obviously didn't know anything about the bloodwork results mere minutes after the blooddraw but the doctor reviewed the ultrasound with us and things looked good. The 2nd blooddraw is set for Week 17 and then the 2nd ultrasound for Week 18 (that way they WILL have all labs back on that ultrasound day). The doctor then reviews all the data with you.
In Baby #1 news, she had her 12 month appt today. I can't believe it. She's in the 85th percentile for height and weight and had a sad day with shots. :) Oh, ladies, you will never love someone like this. It's awesome. And it's amazing how quickly you forget the nitty gritty details of pregnancy and all the negative parts so hang in there!
@chastenet: Love the picture :) Our EDD moved up a few days too, to August 5th but I'm counting it like I was before just in case. I agree with PP that the odds are still good and the fact that you will get to see how things are going in a month will hopefully help you feel a little better. I haven't gotten my bloodwork back yet but should hear something by early next week. I will be sending prayers and good thoughts for your LO. :)
Hey Everyone! I had my NT today, but not without drama of course. For some reason when I went in they said they had me scheduled for a "first appointment" aka, a pap, bloodwork, questions, etc. and I was like, WTF, I am here for an NT scan, I've already had all that stuff done three weeks ago at the other practice! I had the files sent over 2 days in advance. Then the receptionist tells me "Well we can only do an NT if the Dr. Orders one, and you're not scheduled for one." I was FUMING. This was the EXACT opposite of everything I had been told on the phone before coming in. I almost walked out. Finally the receptionist went and managed to find the records I had sent over and came back and apologized for the mixup. The Dr. ordered the NT and I had the scan today!
I wasn't a big fan of my US tech AT all. She didn't even TRY to get a good pic of the baby for me, and my baby wasn't being very cooperative on top of it. He/she was face down the whole time and we couldn't get him to flip. He/she was moving around, which was cute, but the pic the tech got is awful... it looks like a complete peanut blob and its all I have to look at now for the next 8 weeks :( It's not even worth showing on here, as it looks nothing like everyone elses nice pictures.
Anyway, I'm happy that I got the scan done anyway, and that the baby is okay in there :) DH got to see it just before he had to leave for work, and I'm glad because it looks so much better on the US than it does in my crappy pic!
Well I decided to show it, just so you could all see what I'm talking about. So without further adu - here's our lazy little panda. I think the fact my uterus is tipped is not helping us get good pictures :(

@PandasWifey: I think it's a cute little panda. Looks like s/he is in downward dog. :)
Hmm...I wasn't getting the ghost pages, but no worries! I'm glad to join the new thread.
We still have a couple more weeks until our NT scan. It's scheduled for 2/7...which can't come soon enough! I can't wait to see how much our little nugget has grown! I'm definitely hoping to get the ultrasound tech from my 8 week ultrasound, not the last one we had. The first one was waaaay friendlier!
@candicemcc: It's so nice to have your perspective as you are already a mom :) Have you found it easier this time around since you know the ropes? Or harder since you have a LO to take care of?
@orvis18: Thanks! Logically I know that the chances are still veeery slim that there is anything wrong, but it was kind of a blow when the results weren't what I was expecting. I'm feeling more confident though today and I'm sure that in 1 month we'll have a great ultrasound. It'll be nice to see Baby T again :) And like you, I'm sticking with my old EDD.
@PandasWifey: I'm glad everything worked out and you were able to get your NT scan, sorry about the poor photo quality though :( The one you shared is still great, baby Panda is turning his/her back to us :)
@bunnylovesbear: I think that was the best part, as soon as the ultrasound started I said "Wow, the baby is so much bigger than last time!" So cool!
I have my NT scan at 8am today and its currently freezing rain outside so wish me luck! ha. just have to leave super super early to get there. Fingers crossed everything looks as amazing as the rest of your ultrasounds.
Good luck, bebefly!
I think I feel a little less freaked out (in some ways) this time around because I've been through it before. But in other ways I think I'm more freaked out. I think it's because I already know and love my daughter so I feel like I have a better idea of what I'd be losing if something didn't go right. Having a little one already definitely changes things. You're really busy so there isn't as much time to dwell on the pregnancy. Last time I could tell you "I'm 12 weeks + 4 days pregant" at the drop of a hat. Now I have to think about it (and am sometimes wrong). :) I'm very lucky to have had an even easier 1st trimester this time around although the fatigue has been killing me. No time for naps or just lying on the couch. We also went Team Green last time and I didn't find it all that hard to wait. We're finding out ahead of time this time and I'm DYING to know. I think it's another girl and hubby, of course, is hoping for a boy. Perhaps I got a little side-tracked there. Happy Friday, everyone!
Yes, Happy Friday!! I got a call from the dr's office on my way home last night with the results of the blood test. They were great and I am feeling really relieved. I told my two interns about the pregnancy today and both were really excited. I feel like I can finally share the news with people. I even started buying cloth diapers since it's starting to feel more "real" now. :)
We have one stubborn baby on our hands - refused to lie in the best position for the tech to take the measurements and instead was lying spine facing us. The tech was trying to get her to flip over by bouncing the wand on my pelvis and ouucchhhies I sure am sore now!
Managed to get a measurement anyways - 1.2mm, which is great (from what I googled).
That is great! Anything <3mm is the goal. And our baby was stubborn, too. The tech had me cough repeatedly in addition to the jabbing. Good times. Also, yea for good blood results!
@chastenet: Ugh sorry your results weren't what you were hoping for, but they still sound good, and you get another ultrasound out of it!
@bebefly: Yay for a good appointment!
We had our NT scan this morning too. Everything looks great, the pointed out the nasal bone right away, and said the fluid was 1.3mm (I think). At least that's what DH told me...I was too distracted watching my little plum suck her thumb. Whatever the exact number, the Dr that came in later told me it was well within the normal range, so yay! We have to wait until next week to get the results of the bloodwork back, but I'm very cautiously optimistic.
Baby McK is still measuring a few days ahead of my due date, but they still are leaving it the same based on my LMP.
Apparently I've lost about 6 lbs since my last appointment...but I had to get the scan done at the hospital I'll deliver at, as opposed to the clinic I get my prenatal care from, so I'm guessing different scales have something to do with it...although I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it was right, since I've barely been able to hold anything down.
The tech did the wand bouncing thing to try to get my plum to move around as well, to get a good video for us, but I think she was pretty zonked out (totally her father's child). Luckily, the bouncing didn't hurt me any, but it did make me giggle. They sent us home with 2 short videos (one of them she's pretty still, but you can see the heart really well, and the other one she moves a little, but I think it's just in reaction to the bouncing) and a couple of still pictures. I'm also lazy, and not going to blur out my last name. Whatever.
Say Hi Baby McK!

@Mrs Sarah McK: so cuuuutteeeee. lol (wait a minute - we have the same first name, the same wedding month & same due date?)
oh! the tech told me something super interesting - if you want your baby to be super active for an ultrasound, eat something, especially something sugary (like a chocolate bar).
Had my appointment today, went very well! Baby is measuring at 10w5d, they adjusted my due date to 8/19. Heartbeat of 170.
Here's the little bean!

(Sorry for the poor quality photo, we didn't get a disc; they printed a few photos for us, and this is a photo of a photo.)
@PandasWifey: Aw, he's snuggling down into Mommy Panda!

So I don't really have anything new to add, but this will be my 2,500th post, which should make me a Sugar Bee...and I didn't want to waste it on a random thread the way I have been tonight to get up to 2499. I figured I post here more than anywhere else, so I'd cross over on this thread.
Wow! Lots of new ultrasound pics!! This is such an exciting time for all of us! :)
@future, either that or he's looking for the way out already! Lol
@hotdiggitydog: yikes! The 3RD trimester?!! Where do you live?? That seems like FOREVER away! :(
So we just went "public" with our pregnancy on facebook last night after mailing out cards to our extended families a couple days ago. It feels so crazy to have it out in the open after keeping it a secret for so long!
First I posted this pic (see below) and got NO reaction. I was so disappointed!

After a couple hours, I decided to change my profile photo again. This time I changed it to this (again, see below) and we IMMEDIATELY got all sorts of responses! so fun!!

@bunnylovesbear: Awesome way to go public. I still have two weeks until we announce publicly!! I'm impressed with all of the scans.
@bunnylovesbear: OMG!!!! I mean not until the beginning of the 2nd trimester. Sorry pregnancy brain!!! LOL
@bunnylovesbear: That's really cute! We're planning on going public after we get the results back from our NT scan, so sometime next week. DH is thinking about posting a video from Seinfeld where George starts shouting that he's a father, and "my boys can swim!" and then starting a betting pool about gender, weight, birth date, etc. I haven't decided how I'm going to do it...I was thinking maybe just putting our recent U/S picture in a new album and labeling it "my uterus".
@hotdiggitydog: Ha! Phew!! That's a bit more acceptable! Still tough, but not unrealistically difficult!!
@Mrs Sarah McK: Haha! I love the Seinfeld idea!!
@bunnylovesbear: Love the bun in the oven :) Such a cute posting idea. I'm still on the fence about when/if we will post anything on Facebook. I'm sure it will come out on there eventually but for some reason I'm still hesitant to "put it out there" to the online world :)
I really dislike throwing up. Especially because of something simple sounding like a breakfast shake (like the Carnation powder) and toast.
I had a lovely sex dream last night...woke up in the throes of an orgasm lovely. I think I'm going to take a nap now and hope I can slip back into it.
@Mrs Sarah McK: Are you eating something once you get out of bed in the morning? I found doing that really prevents the desire to puke. Also, when I go to the bathroom at night, I drink some water from my water bottle since I always have dry lips at night.
Just got to work after my NT scan. After waiting 12 weeks to finally see something - I can thankfully say that there IS, in fact, a baby in there!! :) The little peanut was moving around a ton but we were able to get some great pictures (I'll upload one soon). Heartrate was around 169! The ultrasound tech was awesome and showed us pretty much everything we had hoped to see - fingers, toes, facial profile, big buddha belly! It was amazing. Very surreal, to say the least! I'm actually measuring a coupld of days ahead, but they still plan to keep my due date at 8/10 for now. I obviously won't get the bloodwork results back for a bit, but the ultrasound tech said she could tell the neck thickness was very low and there was no reason for concern.
I'm so happy! I can't believe I have to wait another 8 weeks to see the baby again - but knowing that everything's ok in there makes it a bit easier :) Phew.
@cascadecherub: Yeah, I had a few saltines as soon I woke up, and I ate the toast/drank the shake about 20 minutes later. It was weird because usually it's too much sugar too fast that triggers it, but I'm guessing the shake powder did it, even though I've had no problems with it before. And ditto on the water...I keep a bottle beside my bed.
@Keppa: Congratulations on a great appointment! It is definitely surreal, but so awesome!
@Keppa: Congrats on the great appointment!! Our NT scan is a week from tomorrow, and I'm anxiously awaiting seeing our little nugget on the ultrasound screen again! I can't wait to see how much he/she has grown since we last saw it!
Just a quick update to keep me procrastinating this morning. :) We had our daughter's first birthday party on Saturday. The last gift we opened was a t-shirt for her that said "Big Sister [Daughter's Name]." Took a second for people to catch up but everyone was excited. As it was Daughter's 1st birthday party I expected a lot of people to ask if we were trying. Why do people ask that? Ever? But I think only one or two people did. Some asked if I was going to keep working and sounded shocked when I said yes. And a few asked where we were going to physically put the baby. It's weird what people are curious or concerned about. Anyway, we then posted a pic of the t-shirt on FB so we're OUT out now. I'm not 100% sure it's feeling real yet, though. And we also scored a free crib from a neighbor who was just throwing it away. And here I was, going to spend a whopping $40 on one from craigslist. :) Other than that, no doctor's appointment until the 9th and that's just a boring, ol' 4-week check-up. Then labs on the 27th and anatomy scan/gender reveal on March 5th. Woohoo! My SIL is going to accompany us to that ultrasound (she has no kids so I think she'll really enjoy seeing it all for the first time). I was thinking of doing a small gender reveal lunch or dinner afterwards with just immediate family but am not sure how I want to go about it. Anyone going that route?
@candicemcc: We find out the gender around the same time as my FIL's birthday, so I was thinking a big cupcake with either red/pink or blue filling. He cuts into the cake/cupcake and voila! Gender revealed!
@bebefly: I love the cake idea for the gender reveal. Totally cute.
We just got back from our latest appointment. The baby is measuring right on schedule and looked great! Our baby was twitching around and kicking it's legs up. We saw the heartbeat and our doctor was pleased with everything.
I did get put on some mild blood pressure medicine because it's been kind of high when I first come in. My doctor thinks it's hereditary, but he wants to get it under control before my pregnancy gets too much further along. That way, we know whether it is pregnancy related or not.
We go back on February 29 (leap day!) and draw blood for our testing. There is a chance that we could find out what we are having!
@Mrs. Bonnie Blue: Yay for a great appointment! Our next appointment isn't until March 1st :(
You guys, I just did the best/worst thing. I've been baking red velvet cupcakes for DH's work all day. I think I'm ending up with about 100 cupcakes, and then I baked another 24 for my niece to bring into school (tomorrow is her 11th birthday. Hers were from a box, because I don't know if all the kids would like red velvet, and I was tired by that point). Anyway, as I was sitting icing her cupcakes, without thinking about it I grabbed a double-stuffed oreo from the open package my SIL left on the counter, scooped up about a tbsp worth of icing, and plopped it in my mouth before I realized what I was doing. For real. So bad, but sooo good.
I bake a lot, and every so often I think it would be fun to open a bakery...and then I have a full day of baking like today and I think "no way." I still need to fill and frost the red velvet ones tonight, I'm wiating for my thickened flour and milk mixture to finish cooling to finish making the frosting.
Sorry for the non-baby related tangent...but cupcakes are on my mind tonight.
