@piiink:  Shooting is a valid hobby – to be honest, it’s one that I’m interested in picking up.  As for having young kids around, well, that’s why you keep those things locked up and out of reach.  My father owned guns when I was a kid and went shooting before I was even born.  And I don’t even remember seeing the guns he owned until I was at least 8 and asked what he kept locked in the box inside his closet.

As for hobbies my FI does.  Uhm.  Video games.  That’s pretty much it. He also plays guitar. I have a ton of hobbies that I drag him out on, but none that he would do on his own without me. I’m always encouraging him to do more, but he seems pretty happy as is, so who am I? 😛

Go skeet shooting and target range. 🙂 It really is fun! And if you are worried about the safety of it in your house, buy a gun safe. We don’t have one yet because there is never anyone at our house that will get into stuff, but it is something once we start having kids or friends with kids that come over, all our guns will be locked up tight, unloaded with the ammo in a seperate safe (which it already is now).  If it would make you feel better there are also hunter/gun safety courses you can take.

@chasesgirl:  Skeet shooting!  That’s what I want to try.  It looks so much fun.

@piiink:  my DH and I both own guns and go to the shooting range. I would consider it a hobby… and it can be really fun! I say to give it a try.. or let him give it a try, rather.

My husband likes to fish or camp…those are really his only main hobby lol. We watch a lot of movies otherwise.

If he were to decide to shoot, I probably wouldn’t think twice but I live in the South in a military section of town so everyone has a gun either to hunt or as a hobby developed from being in the military. My dad taught me to shoot when I was 8 years old. Safety was a big issue – guns stayed locked up, seperated and out of reach from bullets, and I always had very strict rules (such as don’t ever, ever, EVER point your gun at someone. Finger off the trigger, gun down before turning towards someone or even talking). It was a pretty fun hobby.

Has your husband given a reason why he suddenly wants to try shooting as a hobby? There may be some ranges that rent firearms so he wouldn’t actually have to keep it in the house. Or he may want to try something along similar lines but not so dangerous, like paintballing.

@Vidya:  It is!! SO much better than regular targets because they explode when you hit them and they move. It is great!

@Pokemon:  Why? I am seriously curious. That seems SERIOUSLY extreme.

I am currently having this gun debate with my SO. I do NOT Want a gun in my house. I don’t feel safe arround them, and I feel like it would be too easy for an accident or someone to use it against us. I don’t want it in my house at all. I am very anti gun. And he keeps saying he wants it for protection. We live in a small town in North Dakota! I’m from a city of over a million people, and I have never ever felt like I needed a gun to protect me! I feel like the only reason we would need a wepon would be if we felt fear in our houses, and we don’t.

He’s all of a sudden pro gun. We went shooting at a friends cabin, and now he’s shopping for one and pricing them out. And I just don’t want it. At all. Nothing I can say will change his mind, and I’m going to end up with a gun in my house that makes me more nervous then not having one. Ugh.

Anyways, his normal hobbies include video games and graphic design. He’s really really into redesiging logos now. Not for any reason, just he’ll see a logo, like pepsi or whatever, and spend an hour on his computer redesigning it.

let’s see hubs plays Diablo 3 as a hobby with his brother, half brother, stepbrother and like 5 friends….  yip..E

He did go the range on Friday… new targets .. ZOMBIES.  They have colors in the targets so when you get a HEAD SHOT, the only ones to kill ZOMBIES is green and the rest are yellow. Love that DH got all green.  I like this hobby cause it eats up less time.

FI goes hunting, he reads (non fiction lol he’s lame), he plays his guitar, makes craft beer and his own wine (our venue is letting him make a bottle for US to drink, the guests aren’t allowed to drink it). Really, there is nothing wrong with guns as long as he knows how to handle them properly, which he can easily learn how to.

he gets obsessed over everything one thing at a time for a month or so….lol right now we have our storage locker full of crap, his dad has some of his crap, and we have a gun safe in our bedroom with guns.

i actually don’t mind the guns i have a superb time at the shooting at the gun club (ontario laws are very tight regarding weapons) but its a very expensive hobby, never mind the cost of the actual guns, the memebership we didn’t renew this year and one of our guns costs like 50 cents a shot and the other is 10 cents a shot and we bought up ammo in bulk, plus all the safety gadgets like transporting cases, trigger locks, safe, permits, lisence etc etc

men waste money 🙁 and HE has a problem with me buying shoes! a least i wear those everyday with no added costs! hah
