I thought start a new thread since the other one is getting lengthy and a lot of ladies are actually getting married next year.  I am looking a three venues with my parents and fiance in July - Shadow Lawn, Round Hill and Mount Gulian.  We're hoping to make a final choice then.

If anyone has any feedback about those locations - particularly Shadow Lawn and Mount Gulian because I haven't been able to find as much information on them - I would love to hear it.  It's a small board, so let's get the ideas and suggestions flowing for everyone!

Mount Gulian was on my "short list" but I didn't end up even going to look at it, primarily because I found venues that were, in the end, less expensive. It seems like an incredibly beautiful site and perfect for a more casual wedding. Hopefully there are some ladies who have actually gotten married there that can offer more insight.

Fwiw, I just booked Round Hill earlier this week and I'm super excited! It's a beautiful spot but obviously your choice should depend on what kind of wedding you're envisioning.

Jaxx, congratulations on booking Round Hill!  That must be a big weight off of your shoulders.  I'm really excited to visit it, we are going to a tasting there in a few weeks.

Where is everyone else getting married in the Hudson Valley?

    Shout it out!

    Hi,

I booked Round Hill too -- our wedding is April 30 of next year.  I really loved the tasting and the fact that the venue seems really relaxed.

We had a great time looking at all of the different venues with my parents.  In the end, we fell in love with Shadow Lawn - its really where we envision our wedding now.  My fiance in particular was totally smitten!  I'm so excited to book it and start looking at other vendors.

    @Miss Holly:

Can you give me an idea of the pricing at Shadow Lawn?  Is it at all competitive with Round Hill's prices?

@astoriabride:  Shadow Lawn is pretty different from Round Hill because it's not all inclusive.  So there is no per person change, just a site fee.  We will have to find the caterer and rentals separately.  Feel free to pm me with any other questions, I'm happy to help!

Hello Ladies!  I am also looking for a wedding venue in the hudson valley, and i am really looking for something other than a typical hall wedding.  I checked out a few places this past weekend including mount gulian.  It is a gorgeous site!  The barn is kinda small, no good for my 125.  Also there are only 2 bathrooms on site so it was suggested I get some port o potties... turn off for me.  I also loooooved the Ontearo Mountain House, but its a lil pricey.

I plan on going to Round hill and am excited to see it!  Could anyone let me know a price range for round hill?

Has anyone checked out Belvedere Mansion or the Grandview outdoor venue??

ajax - depending on season & day of the week, round hill ranges from $85/pp for a fri/sun wedding january - march to $125/pp for a sat evening wedding may - october (and there's no service charge on top of that, just tax and optional gratuities). they can fit up to 200 people for a seated dinner, but the average seems to be around 100-150.

the grandview might have been the place we went with, except that the least expensive option was their outdoor space and we didn't love it - it's a tent that is literally erected on a concrete lot adjacent to their main building (we saw the raw space before they had actually put up the tent). the tent itself was fine - they do a nice job of carpeting the ground and draping fabric and lightiing to look really elegant, but the ceremony space wasn't as nice the one you get for using the ballroom, and it's possible that if you booked the outdoor space, there could be another wedding going on in the ballroom at the same time. it was otherwise fanstastic - food, staff, view, convenience and value for the $$.

Ajax -- I had the same concerns as Jaxx317 with Grandview (we checked it out before looking at RoundHill).  I looked at Belvedere, but the hotel reviews it got were pretty mixed.  I figured if the hotel reviews weren't great, I wasn't thrilled about hosting an event there.

Jaxx have you found any leads on transportation for Round Hill?

Buttercookie - Still working on it. I got a few quotes, and depending on which way you go, it could be really expensive. Leprechaun Lines seems to be the least expensive and they've gotten relatively good reviews. The next best cost-wise seems to be Best Bus Charter Corp or Coach USA. It's doable for us I think if we just use one bus as opposed to two smaller ones. But that will also depend on a) where we wind up putting people and b) how many people end up needing transportation.

I dunno if you guys have booked any other vendors yet, but I wanted to share mine just in case it's helpful.  We're getting married at FEAST at Round Hill (Round Hill House) on April 30, 2011

DJ -- DJ Constantine/DJ Gaza -- We wanted to book Gary (DJ Gaza), since my fiance is a wedding photographer and has worked with him on numerous occasions, but he was booked! (No surprise, he's awesome!) DJ Constantine is one of Gary's DJs, and when we met with him we were excited about hiring him.  He's clearly got a great sense of music, and we loved that he loves 60-70s soul pop.

Florist -- We're totally going with Steven Bruce Design -- not only is Steven familiar with FEAST (he's done lots of weddings there), but he's really laid-back, friendly and incredibly creative.  I can't wait to see what he comes up with for our flowers! (Check him out at www.stevenbrucedesign.com)

Photographer -- Anthony Collins is a great friend of ours, but more importantly, he takes amazing photos.  Since my fiance is also a photographer, this decision was all his.  www.anthonycollinsphoto.com

Hair & Makeup -- Still looking and would love recommendations!

Transportation -- It looks like West Point Tours might be the best, but we're still researching!

Cake -- The Pastry Garden (though this is included in our contract at FEAST)

@buttercookie: Thanks for sharing!  I'm meeting w DJ Gaza and Rob Kelley very soon!  And I was thinking of giving West Point Tours a call for transportation--will you come back and let me know how it goes with them?  (if you end up reaching out to them)

Violet -- I'll definitely let you know who we end up with.  Tell Gary that Casey (my fiance) and Caroline say hello!

Of course, if any of you brides are looking for photographers, my fiance is booked April 30 (for our wedding!) but his website is www.fatchett.com!

Buttercookie, how many people are you having at your wedding at the Round Hill? I went to the Bridal day a few weeks ago and got really nervous because I have about 200 people and found it to be really tight.  i'm thinking about changing my venue but am wondering if you had similar concerns.

If you want the name of bridal hair & makeup let me know because my fiance's cousin is a hair dresser in the area and I also have a friend that is a makeup artist.  The two of them are doing my hair and make up for wedding day :) Hopefully I will have a venue to do it at.

Hi Guess -- My wedding is much smaller, just over a hundred people, so it wasn't really a concern for me.  I've heard Caitlin Gardens is larger? Maybe you want to check them out.  FEAST says it can accomodate 200, but I agree it's likely to be tight.

Violet -- we ended up booking with West Point Tours -- their rates were definitely the cheapest.  Did you book with DJ Gaza?

Thanks Buttercookie,  we ended up changing our venue to the Falkirk Estate & Country Club.  The Round Hill couldn't have been nicer about it though.  I hope you enjoy your big day :)

Hello All!! I am in need of some help! I am looking to get married in the Hudson Valley in May 2012.. I have looked at the Wainwright House but a bit out of budget. We definitely want something in the Hudson Valley, we perfer a view of the water but if not no biggie. We are looking for a unique venue that can fit up to 150 people. Something like a house, or a barn..Does anyone have any place they can recommend!?

i'm still in love with The Round Hill.  Perfect for 150 people and May.  Very affordable (well in my opinion).  No water views though.

We're thinking about getting married in the Hudson Valley this summer or fall...since it's about to be June, that may be tight! We're looking all over the place, particularly at Bear Mountain's Overlook Lodge. We'd like a rustic, relaxed, weekend type wedding. If anyone has thoughts, I'd love to hear them!

This thread has been really helpful -- thanks everyone for sharing!  We are getting married at Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie and are in the booking like crazy stage right now.  Everything - caterers, florists, photographers, DJs -- we are going crazy with all the options!

Hey everyone!  I'm checking out venues now, and am looking at Locust Grove as well.  I'd love to hear your experiences with them thus far, and how amenable they are to bargaining :)

Locust Grove Brides...who are you using for a Caterer and what type of service are you going with?

I haven't decided on the caterer.  I am having the max of 150 and would like to do buffet style, but i think it might be to crazy and tight with everyone, and am considering family style?

Also does anyone know of a reasonably priced photographer?

    @clairykoo:

Hi All, also looking at Locust Grove. It is beautiful. Trying to get an idea of other costs...any thougths on a good cater at a reasonalble cost. We are having 250 guests, and for just food, sevice, setup and cleanup were thinking aournd $18K is that enough?

@danifiori: I actually just met with lola's tonight, they were really nice and super flexible.  They have done a ton of weddings at locust grove.  I also met with bridge water creek in new paltz over the weekend.  I'm waiting to get the final proposal back from both of them still and I stll have a couple more meetings to setup.  I think 18k might be a little low for that amount of people, but it really depends on what you want and what type of service you are looking for....filet vs flank, buffet vs sit down. I also don't know if that estimate includes linen and plate rentals which run about $20 pp, or alcohol which runs about $20-25 pp for open bar.  I'm thinking my proposals are going to be around $50 pp (food and service only-buffet style w/flank so lower side), but then you have to include tax (8%) and tip (18%) and I'm already up to $63 pp. Weddings are expensive!  I'll let you know whhen I get my estimates how they compare.

@clairykoo: how was bridge creek's food?  Please let us know about what's included (i.e. linens, plates, etc.)

Also anyone have any opinions on Full Moon, Bear Mountain, or Stroudsmoor Country Inn in PA?
